Re: 1960 VW Beetle - Bagged
Gary - that discussion we were having last week at the shop about the replica Rossi headlights. You said they were 100% plastic and I said - naw, the chrome at least has got to be metal. Well.... It turns out you were right. I received them yesterday. If I would have known, I wouldn’t have ordered them. One of the pair had the plastic tabs that hold the driving light lens on broken off so the lens would not stay. Also, the lens does not fit the contour of the frame. I contacted CIP1 and explained how I received the assemblies and they refunded my money and told me to keep them.
I’ve got a broken adjuster in the left headlight so I have to order a new one. I’ll need new rigs as well as mine are rusted. Until then, I decided to make the Rossi headlights work – why not they are free. I plan to put the broken lens in boiling water for a few seconds so that I can bend it back into shape and then glue it to the housing.
To see how they are going to look, I put the good assembly together with the new eyelids and HID4 headlights that I purchased. It looks pretty good, I think. Pictures below:

Re: 1960 VW Beetle - Bagged
Bryce, the inserts were $95 which included shipping from Europe. I purchased them here: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=536080
I looked at the Portowall site you sent me and they were all out of stock on the smaller ones - which is what I wanted. So I looked on samba.com and found these. Price is a bit higher but included shipping and is what I want so to me it is worth it.

I thought they were all plastic. If you are real carefull with them and clean them with some chrome
polish every now and then they should hold up o.k.
The way you have the whole assembly set up looks real good. I think it is going to look great on the car. Be sure to post pictures once you put them on.

Re: 1960 VW Beetle - Bagged
Those colored dizzy caps are junk. If you drive that car anywhere, make sure you keep a real cap somewhere handy. Other than that, car is lookin sweet.

Re: 1960 VW Beetle - Bagged
Thanks everyone! It looks like ti still has a small leak between the cylendars and the case. I heard that the colored distro caps are crap. I still have my original as I don't trust the blue one long term. Today is the first day driving the car into work after getting the larger tires in the rear. Really nice!!

I had that DUB at my desk at work for over a year. When I purchased the car, I gave it to the seller to remember it by.

Got the new tires put on the font today. Here is the picture. Rides really smooth. With the lip of the front tires, it dosent look like I will be able to use the whitewall insterts so I may be putting them up for sale as soon as the package arrives.

Look it up on the samba as someone has trimmed the lip or something and made them work.
