Re: 71 Super GERMAN LOOK
They could. I repacked mine with grease when I had them off. Have you already replaced your struts yet. Just make sure the bearing inside them rotates freely if so put new grease in them while you have them off.
Do replace all the ball joints, tie rod ends and any and all bushings. How low are you wanting to lower it?
I also had to buy the flip it kit from TopLine. This kit flips your tie rods to the top for clearance.
Any other questions just ask me
Good luck

I like the rear fenders and wheel size. Also the mirrors. The curved wind screen helps with the over all scheme.
That thing reminds me of the Porsche 930 slant nose KIT car that was posted on here a few weeks ago.

Re: 71 Super GERMAN LOOK
That is sorta the direction that I want to go with my 74. In some of the pics you can see the Red Topline sport springs and versa-strut set up. This was the first Topline rebuild I did. This was before their Maxx setup came out, I may change to that if I decide to run some porsche stuff or maybe a wider wheel:

Re: 71 Super GERMAN LOOK
I have replaced my struts with the lowering struts and springs and it is on the lowest setting. i bought the adjust-a-strut from topline a while back. Is there a kit other than the complete rebuild kit i can buy that has ball joints, tie rod ends, and all bushings? i guess i should buy the flip it kit to since i have mine on the lowest settingvotwing wrote:They could. Re: 71 Super GERMAN LOOK
I would say, you would need to get the front end rebuild kit and the flip it kit. (the same as I did on my 71) The front end kit should correct the shimmy problem and the flip it will let you get a little lower. My 71 is just on the mid setting and you see how low it is. The only other thing you can replace would be the steering box and I have one that should be good on the shelf.

alright, well i was just trying to see if i could save money by replacing the things on that usually wear out. like the bushings and things. do you thing i would be ok if i just replace the bushings and keep the old tie rods and other hardware components

Re: 71 Super GERMAN LOOK
As long as nothing is bent, you should be OK. If any of the tie rods are bent, I probably have extra anyway.

The resurrection of the GERMAN LOOK
Here is a thread of the tear down and the rebuild of the 71 German Look. Racing to get it done by Bug-A-Paluza.
Hope you like
It started with just wanting to shave the turn signals
A repair done years ago before I owned it was discovered. Done all wrong.
Donner panel from Tims VW in Austell
Bottom of the hinge pillar was rotten as well.
The removal and replacement of the front left quarter panel.
A few pictures of the body work process.
A quick video of the welding up of the trim holes.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0DwXJOn6Yao
Loaded on the trailer
At the painter. I dropped it off on Monday afternoon and it was ready on Thursday afternoon.
Putting it back together tonight. A lot still to do.
To be continued..........

Re: 71 Super GERMAN LOOK
Man that looks awesome, can't wait to see you and the car again. It's been close to a year now!
Re: 71 Super GERMAN LOOK
Looks real good, but I would have smoothed out the rear apron to get rid of the pea shooter exhaust cut-outs. It's going to look so clean with the trim holes welded up and the vents behind the back windows shaved, and the turn signals on the front fender shaved.

Re: 71 Super GERMAN LOOK
Those were on the list to do but ran out of time. I have my blanks ready to weld in but will have to wait now.
Re: 71 Super GERMAN LOOK
It wouldn't be hard to do later, you'd only have to repaint the apron and you wouldn't have a problem matching the paint

Re: 71 Super GERMAN LOOK
A few pictures of what was done today. Got a very late start on the car today. Had honey do or should I say she volunteered me and my truck and trailer to help someone move.
Anywho...
Got one fender bead in and those things suck. Got hood seal and engine lid seal in. Wired for the turn signals in the front bumper. Installed the front hood handle with new seals. Cleaned up caliper and painted it red. I think it looks cool. Going for the full Porsche color scheme. Also reglued the head liner where it rolls over the lip. Needed to do this before the glass goes back in.
anyway here are a few more pics.

Re: 71 Super GERMAN LOOK
Well several more hours spent on the German Look today. Installed the other front fender bead. Dont like the way these look but will have to do until I get back and buy the good ones like they tried to get me to buy. But no!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had to go cheap and been cussing them ever since. Got driver side running board on, front bumper installed and wired, Tag holder and tag light installed. Also installed both turbo mirrors. Cleaned and painted the passenger side caliper and put all that back together. Starting to look like the German Look I wanted. I will be installing the glass on Tuesday afternoon if anybody is available..

Re: 71 Super GERMAN LOOK
Are they a pain because they are too hard to bend? I haven't messed with them before, so I was just wondering.votwing wrote:Well several more hours spent on the German Look today. Thanks
The holes cut out for the bolts do not line up at all. You have to cut everyone and one of the beads themselves are are larger than the others. It will have to do until after Bug A Paluza
Re: 71 Super GERMAN LOOK
I need a couple hands to help pull the windows in the German Look. Tomorrow afternoon or night or Wed.
