1600 Rebuild
I am building a 1776 motor for my 71 super. I am also rebuilding another stock 1600 motor for an extra motor. My question is if I change the cam to a c35 or c25 with everything else stock(pistons, heads, crank) will that help on Horsepower?

Re: 1600 Rebuild
On which motor? If you are talking about the 1776 I would go with the C25 if you plan on it being a driver. If you are talking about the 1600 I would go with a C20.
Re: 1600 Rebuild
Sorry about that. On the 1600 I was going to use a c25.

I would go with the C20. You could probably get away with the C25 but it is real easy to overcam so I would stay with the C20.
Re: 1600 Rebuild
If I put some 88mm pistons in do you think that the c25 would be ok. I do not like the power a stock 1600 has. But I do not want to have to cut the case or heads to pep up the motor.

Re: 1600 Rebuild
88 would work but they are really thin walled. Do 87 (1641) and I think you will be happy. I ran a 1641 in a 67 Bug I had and in my Bus currently. With the C25 cam it should give you what you want.

Garys right. If you want leaks (oil) then go with slip in 88's I would drop back to 87's You want notice that much differance.
If you want to split the case and have it machined for 88's then that would be ok. But dont use slip ins.
Scatt C35 would be fine to run with that set up and using dual single barrels would be nice. Some type of header to go along with that as well.
remember when increasing one thing, others have to follow to get the end result you want (more power).
