Auto Paint Empty Auto Paint

I'm looking for Single Stage Paint for my Bus. Where have you bought paint before and what was it per gal? I'm not looking for a $5000 show paint job, I'm painting on a budget and I need two colors. Single stage is much easier and a bit faster. I believe that for an armature painter like myself it's more forgiving.

In my experience with paint, I have to say, you get what you pay for. Granted, Just graduating from school, and just starting out, i understand the need for a budget paint job. I have used nason single stage ($150-200 a galllon I think) urethane and it does the job. but there again if you can get better, by all means, by the good stuff and cry once. Instead having to do it all over again later on.

Also, in my opinion, BC/CC is much more forgiving in home restos. with single stage you are worried about color coverage and the layout (orange peel ect) of the paint all at once. With BC/CC, it kinda separates the two. i'd rather spray BC/CC over single anyday!

Im not extremely experienced in paint. but most of this is from what I have learned while earning my refinishing degree. Im sure Jeff (56rag) could probably give you some better pointers.

Not telling you how to go about it. just hoping to help!! Cant wait to see it in fresh paint! Obugga looked awesome! im sure this will too!

I was thinking Base coat/ clear coat is more forgiving, you don't have to spray perfect on the base, because you get the gloss from the clear, and when you wetsand the car, you're removing clear, not color- just my 2 cents

base clear is the more forgiving route an iv used matrix paints an love it

I might try it again, Would you do bc/cc on the inside also? Shoot it separate from the outside and mask it off before painting the outside. How long between both colors? I'm doing upper and lower colors and I know that you need to do them close together time wise.

yes BC/CC on the inside aswell. and for sure paint inside first, mask, then paint outside.

time varies. when you buy your paint ask for the paint data and msds sheet. read these thoroughly. They will tell you flash times, topcoat times, dry times and also compatible undercoats (primers, sealer ect) you can usually look them up on the paint makers website aswell.

Reducer also determines dry time. For instance, PPG's have the temp built in their part number. Like DT870 is a 70 degree reducer. You spray that in 100 degree temps and it will be drying about as soon as it hits the surface.

I used a PPG Concept Single stage on both (I paid to have the green car sprayed) of the Porsches we have done in the past 4 years. I was very happy with both. I have done BC/CC personally and agree with all that it is more forgiving.

So who sells it? I saw some prices from AutoBodySupply.net. You got my attention, it's right in my wheel house! I need a custom mix, Factory colors so I'll have to go to a dealer to have that mixed. Can you hook me up?
