TOOLS - THE AXLE NUT THAT WON'T BUDGE!
Anyone know where I can buy locally, not online, a 46mm rear axle nut removal tool, known as "The Wacker"?
Got my bus, Max, new engine and its running. Can't get the left rear axle nut off. Tried soaking with blaster liquid and even broke an old torque bar trying to get the nut off..
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanx

Sorry, dont know where to get a 46mm whacker tool, but have you tried an air impact wrench yet? I just wrestled with mine a couple of weekends ago. I tried using the socket and 4foot breaker bar with no luck. Finally dug an adapter out of the drawer where I could fit the socket to an impact gun. About three cycles of the air compressor later, and the nut finally started moving.

Thanx all for the replies. Yes I do have impact wrenches and they also would not work. I will try Herrell's to see if they will send the wacker to me.
Thanx to all.
Be safe.

Hey dude,
I have a 46mm Large Socket that will do the trick.
You'll need the LARGE breaker bar though, I believe this is a 3/4".
I'm mulling over the trailer / Bay hauling.
Call me at lunch today.
On my '70 I had to take a cold chissel and break the nut off the axle.
There is a write up on the samba about modififying the "torqueanator" to work with bus nuts....
Might want to read this:

Thanks,

Re: TOOLS - THE AXLE NUT THAT WON'T BUDGE!
This is what I use:
My BFT, its 3 1/2 feet long and will torque up to 450 lbs. (so its also good for re-torqueing back to spec ) I have yet to find an axle nut that can beat it. (well the chalk bus came close but there were other circumstances that we won't mention here........... )

Thanx to all. I love the Diggers BFT. That is so cool. I did get the 46mm wacker from Herrell's and it worked great, about 6 wacks with a 4lb hammer, did the job. Had to get the nut off my scrap 70 VW bus, "Maxine". It worked also.
