I'm with Glen. I don't think there ever was supposed to be any type of liner in the parcel tray.

Thanks Guys. I figured it was not factory maybe some aftermarket thing.
On the stalling and sputtering. I checked the points gap and it was nearly closed, set them at .016 and it ran alot better, but still has a slight hesitation under load. I am going to get some more points as the only back ones I have are 912 ones and they do not work. Plan on swapping points and rebuilding carbs. Was glad to get it back to running halfway decent. It stops really good so thats a load off.
Did not work on it much at all today. Did get out my steamer and get to work on the headliner.

Turned out pretty good, the main thing I am hoping for is to get rid of the moldy smell so I can get some passengers in it.

once you get it cleaned up...put a bowl of rice in the bus closed up, this will absorb most of the excess moisture.(leave it overnight) once that step is done, place dryer sheets under the seats, behind panels, under floor mat, any where you can hide em...these will absorb any residual odors. good luck!

Thanks Digger and vwtattooed. I will do the dryer sheet trick once i have it cleaned all the way out.

I spent some time tuning it to try and get the low end miss to go away. Bought all new Ignition parts and put it back together and it now is running good. I want to buy a pulley with marks as I am not a fan of the one on there now.

I also wanted to see if I could get to the OG paint at the door. It looked to me that the front doors were painted so I decided to wet sand them with some 1500 grit followed by 2K. After a few minutes I was starting to see factory paint so I was very carefull not to go through if I could help it. I went ahead and did the passenger side since I had everything out. I am not really super interested in a super shiny finish but it did polish up very good considering how it looked before. I will tackle the rest of the bus over the weekend and after Christmas. I need new wheels and tires and I will be pretty much ready to get it on the road for weekend runs. I am starting to lean on lowering it, fixing the rust and blend the paint. Need to buy a welder. On my 914 I worked with a buddy but my skills were lacking compared to him so he did most of the welding.
I drove it 15 miles last night checking everything out. I drove it over to my Fiance's house and took her kids for a ride in it, then drove it back home.
After the first pass with 1500. There was some white paint back by the vents and it came right off.

I will let you guys know what the PO says. I already sent him a picture of it at the gas station, he was stunned.
Passenger side is going to be more work. It took me as long to do the one door as it did the entire side and I have not even wet sanded it. Happy to see the flaky repaint will come off. Sanding is not working on this side as I am scared to break through so I switched to rubbing like crazy with thinner.

Was out of town all week so Got as much done Yesterday as I could.
The Passenger side cleaned up pretty good until I got to the passenger door. While stripping I am hitting bare metal so I will wait and either spray that door when I do the front end or roll as is. The OG paint polished up pretty good.
Also spent some time getting the Interior touched up. I have read were folks are wetting the panels and parking cars on them to reuse. Mine are past that point and since you can not get the material any longer I decided to use the steamer and pull the vinyl off the old raggedy Panels.My Son helped me on this today. We pulled the material then made new panels. I am happy with how they turned out. I am missing material so I can only do so much in doctoring it up.

fire that steamer back up and try cleaning those seat covers, use a mild soap/water mix and a soft brush to scrub the stubborn areas.

Thanks guys. I took your advice on the steamer.
Got new windsheilds made and installed today. Looks much better with clear glass and solid rubber. It is pouring rain so I will get some pics of those later.

I have been interested in what was under the seat covers since Sunday. Tonight I grabbed the drivers seat and took it inside to see if the OG material was in good enough shape to roll as is.
I did not have a ton of time tonight, but did get them off and took a few passes with the steamer. There is some wear but the white sections are pretty solid.
I will try to see if I can get them cleaned up better.
What do you think?

Better not get used to this. My wife would kill me if she caught me cleaning parts on the rug! Laughing Looking good so far, a few more passes with the cleaner will probably have them looking nice. Years ago, I tried cleaning the original seat cover on my back seat just using a little diluted clorox and a brush and it worked wonders.

Nice Eric, I will give that a try. That seat turned out great in your pic.

That rug has a lot of history so I really should do this somewhere else. I played with Hot wheels and Matchbox cars on it at my Grandparents house when I was little. They were going to throw it out and I said I will take it.

A little better picture of how it is coming. I may be able to spend some real time on it tonight.

I have had good luck cleaning white interior parts with a Mr Clean "magic eraser", but so far it looks like you are doing pretty good!

Thanks, was nice to meet you. Pretty ironic that we saw each other while I had it out!
I will give the Mr. Clean a shot. I have got the white sections to clean up good enough, there is still some staining. The Blue sections are not cleaning up as nice as the edges have some pretty heavy tan staining.
Pulled the passenger seat and went at it last night.

Thanks, I do not think I can get the tan off so I am moving on to other areas. Bought some PPG L680 to paint the frames next week. Still trying to get a welder and as soon as I buy one the metal replacement will begin.
