Re: help me clutch issue
could be the bearing in the gland nut on the end of the crank an its just as easy to get another nut
Re: help me clutch issue
Did the new clutch look different from the old one? Some have collars in the center and some don't. You could've tweaked something as you put the engine in. It could also be one of the forks is cracked/bent/broke where the T/O bearing mounts. I could fly (literaly) up there and help you this afternoon or on Tuesday if you can pick me up at the Rome airport. I'll do it for for some gas $ (airplane gas is expensive).

Re: help me clutch issue
I'll need $60.00 for my VW services. (The FAA won't let me accept payment for the flight) I think i have a spare gland nut @ the house and the torque tool as well. The oil in the bell housing is not huge deal. Either the main seal behind the flywheel is leaking or the input seal on the trany shaft is leaking. Neither should be causing the grinding. When you say you have 3mm of play, is that side to side or front to back?

Re: help me clutch issue
Well...we could make a day of it. Pull the engine, replace the pushrod tubes, change both those seals, inspect the trany fork, torque the flywheel ect. All we need is parts, tools, and time.

Re: help me clutch issue
If you don't have the dowel pins tight it will move on the crank no matter how tight you get it. You can over drill the holes and cut the end of the drill bit off to make new larger dowel pins. You will need to replace the crank as soon as you can.

here is the thing i have the car sold as soon as i get it running again.. so i need to get this done like now... Do you think that the noise i keep hearing is the loose flywheel?
