brake issue
So ive been driving the 60 daily the past few weeks- the other day I was on a crazy steep hill near my job and was really jamming on the brakes-
all of a sudden the pedal went to the floor. Luckily my ebrakes working good
anyway all the lines are good/fairly new- didnt see any fluid coming from the wheel cylinders.
The only place i noticed some fluid was around the brake fluid reservoir cap.
Any idea why this would happen? A few pumps and I had good pedal again.
sound like just bad MC?

Possibility that you boiled the fluid at the wheel cylinders. Crazy steep hill + drum brakes = lots of heat. I would recommend a complete fluid flush and re-bleed.
Out of curiosity, do you have a single or dual circuit m/c?

That would be my first guess. If you end up replacing it I'd consider upgrading to a dual circuit MC too. Not sure how much trouble that would be for a '60 but it might be worth it.
Re: brake issue
i dont think i boiled the brakes- I had just started the car- pulling out of the parking lot at work.
its a single master cylinder

Re: brake issue
You probably have a oring with a flat spot on it in the mc. Works most of the time, and suprises you when it feels like it.
If you had a dual circuit setup you would have only lost half of your brakes. It's more expensive, but who cares if it saves your life, or an expensive body shop bill.

Re: brake issue
i think i figured it out- bad grommet where reservoir hose goes in- under a lot of pressure fluids coming out there
Re: brake issue
so i guess I was wrong- got a nice new german grommet - no leaks there now.
Replaced the Master Cylinder as well. Seems to have good pedal, only when im on a hill or just apply constant even pressure to it will it go to the floor
driving me crazy- i havent pulled the back wheels off yet- but im not seeing any fluid dripping around the wheel cylinders

Re: brake issue
How's the main steel line under the pedal cluster? Rust attacks there unnoticed...
Might be a hole small enough to hold pressure most of the time.

Re: brake issue
Randomly going to the floor almost has to be the master cylinder "bypassing". What kind of cylinders are you using?

Re: brake issue
Those are pretty good. Is that the brand of master cylinder too?

Re: brake issue
yep - my sons taking the wheels off now as i relax in the ac- going to double check all the wheel cylinders- then prob try replacing the soft lines in case they may have collapsed inside or something.
all the hardlines look good.

Re: brake issue
Collapsed lines wont normally do that but good idea to check anyway. What kind of reservoir?
