After reading some stories about getting tickets for illegal vehicle height in California. I figured why not get a post up about how high/low your car is sitting. Here is the code from California:
CALIFORNIA VEHICLE CODE
Section 24400.
(a) A motor vehicle, other than a motorcycle, shall be:
(1) Equipped with at least two headlamps, with at least one on
each side of the front of the vehicle, and, except as to vehicles
registered prior to January 1, 1930, they shall be located directly
above or in advance of the front axle of the vehicle. The headlamps
and every light source in any headlamp unit shall be located at a
height of not more than 54 inches nor less than 22 inches.

Measure from the ground to the center of a headlight.

Years ago I was ticketed in Florida for riding at 18". I thought that was the most ridiculous thing I had ever heard.....still do. Rolling Eyes

The law can't be the same for GA. Is it? With all the jacked up trucks I see violating it on the high side...

Whoa, our law is actually worse, minimum height of 24". Good thing they don't enforce this!

§ 40-8-22. Headlights


(a) Every motor vehicle other than a motorcycle or motor driven cycle shall be equipped with at least two but not more than four headlights, with at least one on each side of the front of the motor vehicle, which headlights shall comply with the requirements and limitations set forth in this article.

(b) Every motorcycle and every motor driven cycle shall be equipped with at least one and not more than two headlights, which shall comply with the requirements and limitations of this article.

(c) Every headlight upon every motor vehicle, including every motorcycle and motor driven cycle, shall be located at a height measured from the center of the headlight of not more than 54 inches nor less than 24 inches, to be measured as set forth in subsection (b) of Code Section 40-8-21.

(d) The headlights required by this Code section shall be maintained in proper working condition and shall not be covered by any type of material, provided that the covering restriction shall not apply to any vehicle on which the original factory headlights were covered.

(e) It shall be unlawful to operate a motor vehicle unless such motor vehicle is equipped with aiming pads on each headlight.

This is crazy.
I'm at 18.75" but I've got 2.5" spindles, and down maybe another 1.25" with my adjusters, so without these, I'd be at 22.5" I guess my low profile tires also account for maybe another 1.5", so I'd guess stock height would be right at 24". So basically anybody with the slightest lowering job would be in violation.

there is also a law about modifing your suspenchion up or down i think the cops in social circle told me you cant alter it but 2.5 up or down they could be full of crap though

someone told me that it was technically illegal to do any modifications to your car with out having it inspected aftarwards, even putting aftermarket wheels. not sure how true that is tho.

I used to get ticketed all the time in Cali back in the day in my mini-truck for this dumb law. A bunch of us ended up fighting it by proving that new stock Porsches were illegal at that height.

I'm sure there are a bunch of stock vehicles that are lower than 24" an therefore illegal in GA.
