My New Bus, Finally!
'71 Bay, very nice project, rust is so bad.
Really if it were painted and the brakes gone thru I could put an engine in it and drive it. The only thing missing is a stock rear bumper. I'll pick one up at my next swap meet. I can't wait to get it home and start on it. I have searched about a year and a half and the search is over.
Soon..... Z Bed and a few light weight cabinets to camp in, maybe by BAP?

Re: My New Bus, Finally!
Thanks guys, you all know that I've been looking for a while. I really hated missing yesterday but I was afraid of going up Sunday and finding out that it had been bought out from under me. That crap has happened before, day late hundred dollars short. Story of my life, not really I'm a blessed individual!
Re: My New Bus, Finally!
My plan is to fix the bad spots straighten the body, paint, assemble. Access the mechanical/engine/braking needs and go from there, should be easy quick turn around. Savannah Beige is my choice of color with a white/off white roof. I do want to install a Z Bed and some simple cabinets for Camping. Lowering and wheels will be at a later date. The interior is all there it even has the middle seat. I'll have to find myself a rear bumper, it has a make shift ball hitch one. Must of pulled a small trailer with it.
Most of the rust repair is flat panels, the only piece I'm concerned about is under the windscreen. Usual rust thru there. about 4 spots, 2" wide being the largest spot. The windscreen is still in it so could not see under the rubber looked like the rust may of extended into the dash area but no rust thru that I could see. Front floor was the other rough area around the pedals, Dog legs are solid and the door bottoms were perfect. I'm stoked about it I've waited for this day a good while. For the price I paid and it's condition it is a score no doubt!
Also I found this site VW-MPlate.com I was so excited about the condition of this guy that I didn't write the m code plate info down or take any pics of the Bus either. Duh....
Any Bay part sites that you guys know of would be helpful.

Re: My New Bus, Finally!
Congrats Bob.
Since you got an early bay, try this site. Not really for parts, but focused on the 68-72 model busses. Most members are "across the pond" but still useful.
See ya around.

Re: My New Bus, Finally!
Been Cutting on this Bus.....
What a pain laying on your back and trying to not set your hair on fire with a cut disk on a 4" grinder. It's gettin there.......slowly. These things are nothing but cross members and gussets. Each section is welded to the next and so on! Really hard to cut sections out and leave enough to reuse them.
In another post I mentioned the run away Bus. Here are pics Shaky sent me....
The S hook straightened out and off the trailer it went, off the driveway and into the tree you see in front.
Just after this pic the bolt broke holding the winch and it hit the same tree, again!
I think I've come up with a cool awning for my Shop.
