Those look like 67 1 year only overriders on the rear. Nice looking find.

Re: 1966 Bug "Willow"
There are four boxes of parts with some other overriders/bumper pieces inside the car. Tomorrow we'll pull all that stuff out and get a better look. Title and vin numbers say 1966. Almost fell into that "supposed to be 1966" trap before! She needs a lot of work but I am excited!Cave Man wrote:Those look like 67 1 year only overriders on the rear. Nice looking find.

The deck lid and front fenders are correct for a 66. Most likele someone changed the bumper for what they had and didnt know or care about the difference.

I have a 67, but, I dont think my bumper is correct. That's one of the things I never noticed was different on a 67. I'll have to check on that this evening. Very cool looking ride. So what's the plan for this jewel.

Well....she looks good in pictures! Needs a good bit of body and interior work. It has an earlier model motor that runs and looks good. Was being used as a DD. I would like to keep her close to original as possible. My 66 I had as a kid got totaled around 1985 but we kept the motor, so would like to someday replace that early motor. The guy said there is an earlier model radio in one of those parts boxes. We also kept my 66 radio.....bakertim2 wrote:I have a 67, but, I dont think my bumper is correct. Willy needs to be better before this one gets much attention. I reckon she will sit in the barn and just be touched for a while. Nawww..

VWs are like Lays potato chips. You can never have just one.

Re: 1966 Bug "Willow"
We pulled the bumper parts out of a box today and I see what you mean about the difference. The overriders on the car have that little dip down in the middle. The other ones when you put them up next to those....are straight across the top, more square. Am I on the right track?Cave Man wrote:Those look like 67 1 year only overriders on the rear. Re: 1966 Bug "Willow"
VWs are addictive. I have been in one since my dad bought the 66 new. I learned to drive in it, drove it through school years, (he finally gave up ever getting it back and it became mine) my first marriage and part of my current marriage. It was totaled in my driveway when an ahole ran off the road and smashed it into a U shape. So, she died in '85. Then I got a 1969 KG and drove it til about '91. Still have it, just in a bad state of disrepair. So, I am very happy to have a bug or two back in my life!
