Turtle back lugs & nuts / Lugstud questions...
Hi all,
I plan on lowering the '71 1302 and putting the set of turtle backs on him. My question is what lugstuds or lug and nut combo do I need. Looks like it is supposed to have a shanked lug nut with a washer behind it.
I mounted them to the ASBug last year using the 30* Empi 8 kit that was on the car, but that isn't even close to what it needed.
I didn't drive it, just shot some photos of them on the car...
Any one know what to mount them with?
I am thinking that I want to remove the paint and polish the entire wheel on these.
I know it is alot of elbow grease, but I'll probably do it over this winter.
Any one have any good personal experience with polishing and sealing an alloy wheel?
Thanks,
KC

pic of originals
seems like a lot of conflicting info out there.
Some say stock will work - others say they will be too short because of the taper on the bolt head

You might want to just strip the paint off of them, and run them as cast

The Samba has some comparisons of lugnuts:

The last pic is more what I was thinking.
I'll strip the wheels and see just how rough the center section is on mine. Some one on here had a set of all polished TBacks on their KG that was all polished, looked sweet.

Yeah, I've seen the polished turtleback, they look like Porsche phone dials, but I'll bet that's a lot of work

One thing for sure, there aren't a lot of cars running turtlebacks, they're kind of unique

That is the way that mine look now ^
I think I'll Soda Blast the insides (crusty) and then strip the outsides and see how rough they are.
I plan on using the horn buttons as centers as well.

I think that they will match the uniqueness of this ride when I get it done...Grifspop wrote:One thing for sure, there aren't a lot of cars running turtlebacks, they're kind of unique

Yep, turtlebacks on a RHD Super, not likely to park next to another one!!
