Help with with studs on oil plate Empty Help with with studs on oil plate

Post by Jim Baker Tue Jun 08, 2010 1:35 pm

I need help with those crazy little studs on the bottom of the engine. Went to replace the oil and one of them would not tighten. We tried to remove the loose one and it would not come out. Made the seriously stupid mistake of trying to take it out with visegrips while the oil strainer and oil plate were still on. NOW to find out that this particular stud had been trouble before and the previous owner had replaced it with an oversized one. Large on the engine side, small on the cap nut side. Won't come out unless the strainer and plate are removed. Since we stripped out the stud on the cap nut side, its now useless. Any suggestions on where I can get a replacement stud. The large side of the stud is larger than the hole that is in the oil strainer and the circular oil plate. I called Harrell Bug parts and Lindy told me he has had difficulty in getting these and that they used to be used alot in the past. I just need one. Anyone know where I can buy one?

Thank you!

So did you get the stud out?
I've always had luck just getting step studs from ace hardware.

sounds like you need a 8mm x 6mm

GREAT suggestion, I did not think Ace Hardware would have step studs, but THEY DID!!!! Exactly what I was looking for.

Thank you!
