Re: 71 Bay-HULAWGN
Had the new motor in and running 4 days before Bulli. Awesome power {2110 with 90.5 pistons x 82 crank and c25 cam with 1.25 rockers, 1.5 inch ceramic header and heater box}Ran it down to Tampa and valves would not stay adjusted. Pulled the motor and put in spare, yes I took a spare. Luckily saved it because the cam gear was coming loose and caused timing and valve problems. Now back together with Billie's help and lowered compression from 9.2 to 8.3 to 1 and c35 cam. Waiting on some new pushrods from Pro Flow cause they needed to be just a hair longer. Can't wait to get the beast back in the Hulawagon.

Aluminum bolt on valve covers on the way to hopefully stop the leaking. Thanks Glen for the scat covers but they still leak. Also spent too many greenbacks on some new carbs, won't be under carburated after I get these installed. I'll post pics after carbs get here.

Ouch. Hopefully the short block is OK. That crusty stuff on the bottom #2 looks a little scary though.

If you're seeing the top of the connecting rod by looking at the top of the piston, you've probably got some internal damage from metal particles beyond the combustion chamber.
Let's just hope that the short block is O.K.
I once bought a Super Beetle that the guy's wife kept driving after the head of the valve broke off. It went through the piston, and came out the top of the block!!! The engine couldn't even be used as a core, only the external parts were any good.

Re: 71 Bay-HULAWGN
I hope the block, rods and crank are still useable, everything else can be replaced economically.
Glen, that metal in #2 came through the intake when i was scraping out particles with the head still on.

Re: 71 Bay-HULAWGN
nooo, fixed the cam gear back in jan, ran it for 4 months and it dropped a valve accelerating in 2nd gear. heard a loud clunk and immediately shut er off. just now had the heart to mess with it. been running a stock 1600 for two months.

Re: 71 Bay-HULAWGN
If you look at the other piston it appears that that valve has also hit the piston. Which equals valve geometry wrong
Re: 71 Bay-HULAWGN
Went over to mikes and took apart the case. It seems the valve floated and knocked the piston. I did'nt think I revved it that high. The good news is all the parts are reusable with some new bearings and 1 new piston. Thanx Mike.
