two tone paint
I'm thinking of doing the two tone paint thing on the '65. I was wondering how those of you that have done this have your door jams paint. Pics if you got em please.
Thanks,
Eric

Re: two tone paint
When I dropped it off at the painters, I didn't really specify how I wanted the jams, so this is how he decided to do them.
The white does wrap around into the jam, but only about a quarter of an inch. If I did it again I would probably specify to wrap the white around to the the line/bend where the striker plate is.
Here is a pic from the samba where they wrap it all the way. It's all personal taste, but for whatever reason, I just don't like it this way. I don't really like it my way either, I wish it went about another 1/2 inch.
Here is the front of that same car. I like where the lines meets here.
Pretty good thread here, but not many pics of jams.

Found this picture in that thread. Wish I knew where he got his ragtop material. Looks like an even better color match than what I have.

Re: two tone paint
Here is my take on it. ABout the same as Fluxcap, thought I'd include back edge of door too.
I Kinda like the samba version, makes for a cleaner look at the joint at the heater channel (mines all red)
(Yes that's me on the floorboards. Clutch pedal hook broke, again....)

Re: two tone paint
Thanks for the info Eric. I like how yours cuts off better. Is the bottom of your jam white?
Thanks,
Eric

Eric
Re: two tone paint
Thanks Don, looks like you did your jam the way Eric was suggesting. Hopefully this thing will be done before summer, a lot of work left to do.
Thanks,
Eric

Re: two tone paint
**NOTE***
It seems to be better to divide the colors at the trimline, not the body line above it. I have a red line where my hood, quarter and fender meet....oops.

No, mine is actually blue. This pic kinda shows it. This is the only one I currently have uploaded. If I remember, when I get home, I'll snap a picture of it with the door open.

Re: two tone paint
Thanks for the input guys. Eric if you can get a pic that would be awesome. I've got the next couple of days off and plan to hit it hard, I don't think I'll get to any painting by this weekend but hopefully I can get it all in primer. Have a lot of grinding of some old welds and sanding work to do first.
Re: two tone paint
Here are a few more pics. If I did another one it would be a combo of mine and Don's . I really like how the red on Don's goes all the way to the corner on the side jams. But I'd like to keep the bottom rocker section the main color, mainly cause when you are sitting in it, you still see some of the rocker and it would drive ME (just my OCD) nuts not matching the rest of the interior paint.

Re: two tone paint
great pics. Thanks a lot. I agree, seeing the white not matching when you were inside would drive me nuts too. I've got one side primed, working on the other now. Hopefully by Feb or so it will be back on the road with some fresh paint.
