Atlanta Downhill Challenge
This looks like SERIOUS fun! Click this... Downhill Challenge
I was thinking that we certainly have enough crazies and mechanical skills to have an Aircooled Airheads VW-themed entry.
It's in Nov, so we have a little time to pull parts together and see what we come up with.
Limit of 250 pounds for the car, the rules are at the bottom of the myspace link.
I can donate a very banged up Beetle hood and some bike wheels to the cause...
Anyone interested?
If we get a car together maybe we can challenge another GA club to come up with one??

Damn! I want one of those...but I think it might be over the #250 limit.
But I'll bet we could do something like it lighter weight...bike wheels with fake Beetle hubcaps?
Rag top for the driver's head to poke through? (Of course, after watching the videos we might need a rollcage!)
Ideas to keep it under 250 pounds?

Re: Atlanta Downhill Challenge
Not my build stole the idea from the samba, but it is what I am going to use. Here is the idea and now to figure out how to make the spindles for the bike wheels.
Re: Atlanta Downhill Challenge
since its a down hill change the car needs to be built light then put wieght tin the front to bring it up to 250 then a heavy driver also near the front
Re: Atlanta Downhill Challenge
I was reading that they are required to have brakes. I think bike wheels would work great, cause you could fab up a mount for standard bike brakes. I'm not sure how you would rig up brakes on other wheels, though I'm sure there are many other ways it can be done. If this is going to be for Y U buggin 3.0, I may give a whack at making something.

Re: Atlanta Downhill Challenge
I'm tryin' like hell to finish my Beetle this weekend...then I'll be able to put some time in on something for the downhill challenge. Bike tires seem like the way to go...
Bryce, if you're going to be up toward Morrow over the weekend I've got that wheel...and I can pick-up the stickers and shirt.

Re: Atlanta Downhill Challenge
Methinks we should submit a "Mini Rancher" in the competition. How cool would it be to roll a mini lime green bus out of the big lime gree bus? Seems pretty easy...couple sheets of plywood, some lawn mower wheels, and I could use one of my buggy seats to fit in there. Then we put Gordon in there and give it a good shove!
