That beats swapping out the generator
You got that right!!
This seems the week for electrical woes. First the condensor on the bus and now this.........atleast both were easy fixes!!
I've had charging probs for a week now. ended up being a bad gen, i tried three rebuilt gens from advance, then finally went to tims, and picked up the worst looking one there, and shazam! light is off and battery is charging!
now if i can just figure out my fuel/carb problem...
These crappy aftermarket parts will be the death of us all........

Watch out, did the same on the 74 bus and it did kill a lot but ran a lot out. When I got under it to put the trans in they had moved underneath it! Everytime a stray web brushed my arm would jump.

Joe and I pulled all the glass out of the Bay today...well except for the front doors.
Only had two of the windows that need repairs made to them....due to rust.
That was a big surprise to both of us.

Good to know! Thanks
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Today I took the '67 to Advanced Imports and let Gary and Bobby loose on it. They spent most of the day tuning it and getting the sludge out of the fuel line. Sitting for 15 years will really gunk up the fuel system. Thanks, Gary!!

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Well, after 3 trips to the tag office, and a visit from the Snellville police, I got my '67 registered today. So, I take it for it's first legal ride, and the clutch goes out on it. Damn!!

Why the visit? for not being tagged?Grifspop wrote: and a visit from the Snellville police,
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Yeah, the Beetle wasn't showing up in the system since it hadn't been tagged since 1995, so a police officer comes over, inspects the VIN plate, and fills out a form from the tag office. The good news is that I'm running a 1967 Georgia plate, too!!

The clutch has me puzzled, though. When I pushed in the clutch, the cable didn't break or fray, but it isn't operating like it should.

Cross shaft broken? Or throw out bearing came off cross shaft or....?

That's what happened to me on the way to Bug-a-paluza 09. 5 minutes into the drive I came to a stop and put it in neutral, then when I went to put it in first, I felt the pedal "snap", and it wouldn't go into gear. Figured the cable had snapped so we towed it back home and pulled the cable and it was fine. Turns out the clips that holds the throw-out bearing on had fallen loose and the throw out bearing was no longer engaging the pressure plate.
