No SOWO IN Helen 2016

Seems the town voted down any future Southern Worthersee events...too many problems were quoted as the reason... I enjoyed that show, and hate the decision.

The hotel I called as suggested, is pretty much booked for the 23 weekend. There is a car show up there already.
The following weekend is April 29-30 and they have 15 or more rooms as of now.
Any interest at this point?

I hate that they got rid of SoWo (I can understand the decision as a few bad apples simply ruined the bunch) but love to drive the Bus to Helen. I am blocking out the April 29-30,2016 on my calendar for the trip. Hope it comes together!

Just curious where the April 29-30th dates came from. SOWO was always held in May. There are quite a few vw events in April as it is.

Been thinking about having an unofficial aircooled take over/ raid of Helen on what would have been the SOWO weekend (5/14 -5/15.) I always enjoyed SOWO for the setting and the aircooled cars. I even got married during SOWO weekend. I think it would be cool to show up, spend money, and show the city of Helen that we support them.

Hey Garrett--not sure where the date came from either but i like going to Helen and i would be happy to go whenever everyone wants to go. (However, James told me he bought your bus?!#@$%^? What?) Maybe an aircooled gathering might help them see the cooler/relaxed side of the VW community...

Yeah sold it to him right before SOWO. Was time for somwthing new..... I just never found that something lol. Ended up with a ratty 67 bug to tinker with. I totally agree with showing them the cooler laid back side of the vw community. I know Athens VW club used to do the poker run the weekend before SOWO.... maybe some different activities like that would work. Something besides an official show.

SOWO will be in Savannah in May next year..

Yes I'm well aware of the European Experience in Savannah. It won't be the same as SOWO tho. It is a Euro car show in a town that is not Helen. I'm not knocking it..... just think Helen is the place for me..... away from the mayhem. I know of more than a few aircooled guys that's stayed away from SOWO for that reason.
