Gordon's 1962 Gulf Blue Ragtop
New start for me with a new car, so I guess I get a new name too. I picked a 62 ragtop recently and hope to have it rolling soon. Until then, I'll be asking questions and hopefully hit a show or two. Here are a few pics...

Re: Gordon's 1962 Gulf Blue Ragtop
Hadn't you found a 62 rag a long time ago before you got your old bug? I thought I remember you having a lead on a ragtop and a type34 ghia way back then.

Re: Gordon's 1962 Gulf Blue Ragtop
You can't be completely dubless Brian! You'll have to find another project.
we sealed a deal on something else today, so yeah, I'll be parting with mine before too long. Gordon it'll be up to you and Joel to be the airhead's ragtop representatives. (It's a tough job, lol).
And I've always loved the word raggamuffin! Awesome name.

Re: Gordon's 1962 Gulf Blue Ragtop
Don't worry eric, I have one in the works. I'm not going dubless for long. Just long enough to get the new one going. Wil just say I'm going to have some "pride" soon!
Gordon, can't wait to see this one going.

Re: Gordon's 1962 Gulf Blue Ragtop
I have already gotten busy on it! After making it a roller with some good tires and removing the brakes off the passenger rear I rolled it down to the garage and started pulling it apart. The body is now off and I have removed the engine, both front fenders, the running boards and the old hood. Here within the next week or so I hope to put a front clip on to repair the rust of the drivers side and strip the chassis and install new Wolfsburg West pans.

Re: Gordon's 1962 Gulf Blue Ragtop
Chassis is out and on the saw horses! I got most of it pulled apart today along with removing the old pans and all the tar board off the tunnel. I also removed the flat tires from the smoothies and knocked all the hubcap clips off in prep for powder coating. The spare in the car was completely shot and one of the four rims off the car is questionable on one lip.

HOLY SMOKES!!! Amazing progress Bryce. I can't thank you enough. It looks great!

Re: Gordon's 1962 Gulf Blue Ragtop
Wolfsburg West pans came in today! They are nice and twice as heavy as the zito pans I have used in the past. I hope to get them welded up Sunday if the weather is clear and then to the blaster this week.

Re: Gordon's 1962 Gulf Blue Ragtop
Good work Bryce! I agree. Those WW pans are definitely the best to work with. That's what I had in my old 63.

Re: Gordon's 1962 Gulf Blue Ragtop
Wow! You are doing a great job with your 61 vw. Thanks for your reply, I have also a 61 blue vw that needs resto. Body , pans and heaters in good shape , looking for a motor for it. Not sure if its gulf blue or pastel blue, but it looks just like yours.

Re: Gordon's 1962 Gulf Blue Ragtop
This car is Gordon's and is a 62 but I am having a good time fixing it for him! I hope to have more progress tomorrow and Monday! Both of our cars are gulf blue only difference is mine is a 61 and his a 62. Post some pictures of your cars if you get a chance.
Re: Gordon's 1962 Gulf Blue Ragtop
I got the pans all welded in today. I spot welded them in every inch and a half. Now it is off to the sand blaster tomorrow!
Re: Gordon's 1962 Gulf Blue Ragtop
Clean, good looking job. Wow, you are going really fast with this resto. What motor is Gordon planning to put in? Did you had to do any repairs to heater channels? Have you done any heater channel work? I have a 62 that don't know what to do with, because needs heater channel replaced, I don't weld so its very costly to get it done... Hope to meet you guys soon, blessings!

Re: Gordon's 1962 Gulf Blue Ragtop
It is looking GREAT Bryce! As long as the original 40 horse engine is in good running order I will probably keep it in there. If it needs to be rebuilt then a 1600 will go in its place.
