Re: 10th annual Poker Run- May 10
Mark your calendars! The 10th edition of the Poker Run is once again the Saturday before Mother's Day.(May 10) The route has been determined and we are hitting the favorite spots from past runs.
We start in Helen and head to Fender's Diner in Cornelia, from there we will head to the Clarkesville Mall to hunt for treasures, next is Tallulah Falls, then around the lakes to the DQ in Hiawassee, the final leg runs down to Cleveland to end at Jake Raby's shop where we will see his changes and improvements. (and figure the winners and give prizes)
This years entry fee has not been finalized, but will be lower than in past years! Details on registration and hotel prices coming very soon.
Tell your friends; bring your Moms!
PM me if you would like to be a sponsor. Thanks.

It's marked on my calendar. Let's hope for some good weather! I still remember one of the early runs where I had to drive through snow flurries to get to Helen. Yuck!

Re: 10th annual Poker Run- May 10
Some details: This year's entry fee is only $20.00 for pre-registration and $25.00 the day of the run. If you are pre-registered you are guaranteed a shirt and the proper size. If you don't pre-register, you may not get a shirt at all and if you do, it may not be your first choice of sizes. We are only ordering 36 shirts this year (unless we get more than that pre-ordered) due to having too many shirts left over each year.
So, to Pre-register Send your $ and shirt size to Clyde. Extra shirts are $12.00. You can also post here or PM Clyde your info, then mail payment.
Clyde Maddox, 1070 Canyon Creek Rd., Watkinsville, 30677
Pre-registration is open till April 27. Shirt order goes in on the 28th.
Hotel info as soon as I have it.

Re: 10th annual Poker Run- May 10
The host hotel is once again the Best Western Riverside Inn and Conference Center. It is located on the main street in Helen. The price for us is $70.00 per night. To book your room call 706 878 2111 and ask for the Athens VW club rate. Don't call the general Best Western reservations phone number, as they don't have this rate to offer.

Check is going out in the mail to Clyde tomorrow.

Re: 10th annual Poker Run- May 10
The shirt order goes in less than a week from now. Let Clyde or me know your shirt size even if you haven't registered yet. We are only ordering a limited amount of shirts and extras will be of limited size selection.
Also, remember this cruise goes through the mountains. Be sure your brakes are adjusted and working to the best of their ability.
It is your responsibility to be sure your car is road worthy.
If you haven't booked your room and you intend to do so, do it soon, we have a limited amount of rooms reserved.
As usual, we will host a post run cook-out at the host hotel. It is free to all participants.

Re: 10th annual Poker Run- May 10
The shirt order is in and the day for the run is getting closer! If you haven't booked your room yet now is the time. No one wants to miss the Friday night dinner at the Mexican restaurant so get there as early as you can.
This year's sponsors:
Herrell's Bug Parts
North Georgia Speedometer
Athens German Aircooled Parts
Raby Enterprises
Volkswagen Club of Athens
We are still looking for more sponsors. More prizes are always welcome.

We usually walk down to the Mexican place about 8:00 - 8:30 depending on when everyone rolls in. We hang out at the hotel until everyone we know we are waiting for shows up.

Here is the route map and the shirt design for this year. The map says 2013, but it is for this year. Oops

Re: 10th annual Poker Run- May 10
If you have not registered yet you can do it Friday night if you can find us or Saturday morning starting at 9:00 am in the Best Western parking lot. We will start the run shortly after 10:00 am.
First stop is Fender's Diner, so bring your lunch money.
I know the forecast is for rain here and there, but seldom does it last long. Every mountain we crest has a different weather system happening so don't let that keep you away. Even wet we will have a blast!

Well Jon, I'm not going to make it. I was going to brave the rain, but the wiper motor in the 57 died today. It worked for a while this afternoon but quit. I spent a while troubleshooting but can't find an obvious reason. No wipers=no drive in the rain. Bummer.

Sorry about the wiper motor. We had one bug do the run w/o wipers as their's quit the night before. Only had one real downpour for a couple of minutes and then we just had a couple of light sprinkles.(no way to know ahead of time though)
Clyde has your shirt.
Re: 10th annual Poker Run- May 10
Had an awesome time, Scooter ran great even with a clutch issue, we had a little trouble on the way home, Scooter stalled at a red light, when I got it off the road I saw that fuel was dumping down the carb.
I pulled the top of the carb off and checked the float and the needle valve and reassembled it and drove it the rest of the way home. Something must of kept the needle valve open.
