66 VW Beetle rebuild for Ferdinand Figueora, this is the Bug that was rear ended with the Alvarado Family
For those that have been reading, keeping up, or came to the cruise-in for this family here's some details:
Ferdinand is the cousin of Matthew, Brooke and Taylor. He bought this 66 Beetle 3 hours before the accident. He went to their house, took their Dad for a ride, then took the kids for a ride....while they were waiting to make a left turn they were rear ended by an SUV. It critically injured Taylor, the youngest, and seriously injured the three other people in the car. Meeting all of them was awesome. We contacted Ferdinand and offered to rebuild his 66 Beetle for him. We talked to the insurance company, convinced them not to total the car out so that he could keep the title, then we went and picked up the car from the tow yard and brought it to the shop.
We have stripped it down, taken the body off the pan, taken out the severely damaged motor and tranny and have started stripping and tearing down the donor car for the replacement.
Here's the cool story on the donor car. There was a guy out test driving a car he was working on for someone, he drove by our shop and noticed all the VW's outside. He works on VW's so he stopped to see what the story was on the cars. It turns out to be the person that used to own and run VW Central in Macon, GA. He talked to John about the cars we had going, then he saw the wrecked 66. John told him the story and he said, "I have a 66 original car just sitting at my house and I hadn't figured out what to do with it. I don't have that much in it, let me think about what I want for it and I'll let you guys know" Well, the next day he pulled up with it on a flatbed, unloaded it and said, "Here, it's yours" So now we have a great donor car to use for the body!!!!
We'd love any help with it that you guys feel like doing, as we know it's going to be a time consuming rebuild. There's no timeframe, so really whenever we get it done, it's done. Let us know if you want to work on it.

Thanks Gary. The guys are really getting into this project. It is amazing how much talent God has loaned us. We will be posting soon about how more people can get their hands on this car and "turn a wrench" for a great cause.
