Re: New 68 Bug in Fayette GA
That CL ad is great...the wife always points out the hoes and strippers on TV are always driving either a 3rd gen camaro or firebird... Speaks well of the model. But out of all of the TA's I've had, this one drives the best and is pretty well built. There is a HUGE 3G following online though, and values have increased dramatically over the last few years. But that CL IROC is not a $5k car...

Just gauging interest...fun part of rebuilding is over.... Would rather have something "not as nice" so I don't feel bad for cutting it up into a ratrod. This one is too nice to cut on, but was a fun learning experience to see how these little motors operate.

Just curious - why the tendency toward lowering the dub?

Usually, the rear will settle some (that's where the engine and transaxle are), and the front end sits high. Once lowered, you've got less air pushing the front of the car up, and more air pushing the hood down- it handles so much better on the expressway, and takes turns better because of the lower center of gravity

Okay - that makes sense. So I have just purchased a 74 Sunbug and am interested in taking it all original - at some point. Would lowering it affect its "original-ness"?

Yes the car wouldn't be "original" but lowering could be considered a "bolt on" mod so it could easily be undone and shouldn't effect the resale/originality of the car. Don't let these guys trick you into thinking there are great performance gains by lowering a bug. The main reason is always looks and not performance. The truth of the matter is, a bug is shaped like a wing and (no matter how much you lower it) it will still get light at highway speeds because it literally wants to fly.
