Just like any part can wear out and brake, It broke. It still sucks that it broke. If they are all old I'd change them all since you have to pull the engine.

a while back on my 2074cc motor, on the 3rd day i had it, a spring broke and dropped a valve. when i got it home some of the springs were so weak, i was able to push them down with one finger Shocked . My guess is the heads sat for a long time, and some of the springs were compressed for years, causing the compressed ones to weaken. anyhoo, i was lucky, and the only casualty was the head, a new set of 042's, with dual springs, ratio rockers, and chro-mo pushrods, and i was on my way Twisted Evil

stock motors can really take a lot of abuse. Once i had the throttle return spring break on my turbo motor. I couldn't believe that thing didn't blow up. it revved so hard, before i realized what was going on and shut it off.
