Rattling noise when I turn off 68 bug
when i moved my bug today from the driveway to the rd to park, my bug made a rattling noise when I turned off the ignition..
Its not a hard knock- i dont think its from the inside of the motor...
Maybe gen? idk...
I wouldnt be surprised if thats bad on here too.. lol..

Oh, let me be first....
It is the gas filter dinking on the distributor....
Well, not really, but everyone is going to tell you to move it... LOL.

X2, probably the main cause of an engine fire is the fuel filter catching a spark from the distributor, I'd also move it

Re: Rattling noise when I turn off 68 bug
yeahh, im moving it in front where the gas tank is when its ready for me to daily drive it.
im just leaving it here at the moment to monitor the gas. This bug isnt driven except when im working on it to test drive it in the neighborhood.
I still have a ways to go.. :/ lol. patience.......
I was thinking a pulley...

Re: Rattling noise when I turn off 68 bug
It needs clamps more than movement. Filters are fine as long as you change them often and don't let them get brittle from the heat. (I'd still move it though)
Rattle could be a piece of tin, T/O bearing, loose belt, loose fan, tin screw that fell to the base of the pulley, pea shooter about to fall off, or any number of things. Best way to find it is to have somone shut down the engine while you stand back there and try to narrow down the direction the rattle is coming from.

Is it possible the fuel shut off on the carb is not working. Did it seem to rumble on for a second or two after you switched the key back?
Re: Rattling noise when I turn off 68 bug
its weird cause i drove it today (fixed my exhaust leak!) and it didnt do anything. But it whines so I know the gen. is going out. I might just get a alternator...
Re: Rattling noise when I turn off 68 bug
You could take off the belt, and start it up.....VREY BRIEFLY!!!!! and see if your noise dissappears.
