Re: earlier tail lights
If by earlier you mean 66 or earlier then headlights would be a serious problem. The fenders are shaped quite a bit different.
Tail lights shouldn't be too hard. You may need some bodywork to cover the holes from the larger '70 tail lights

Re: earlier tail lights
you will have to swap front fenders and should be able to swap tail lights might have to fill some holes
Re: earlier tail lights
Just get an earlier car, that's the easy way :-)

Bumper brackets on the front line up differently- on the older style cars they are through the apron, on our "newer" cars they are taller, and through the fenders.
Simple solution though, just get the 66 or earlier fenders w/lights, and cut the holes for your bumper brackets. There are even conversion bumper brackets available to mount to your car, but use the older style, blade bumpers. too cool, huh?
Re: earlier tail lights
If you look at the fronts, the earlier car's hood comes down further and the visible part of the apron is shorter. The later car shows more apron beneath the hood. A lot of the folks on the other side of the pond will weld on an early apron, use an early hood, and early fenders. Seems like a bunch of effort to me.

Re: earlier tail lights
Agreed-
I'm doing a conversion on Old Yeller, but am not changing hood/decklid or apron to the early style, just all four corners.
At BAP a few years back, there was a teal 68 with rear fenders/lights and bumpers swapped. Except for the gas door and dashpad, it really looked a lot like a 67 . I think he got a trophy too.

Re: earlier tail lights
I found this out the hard way. Years ago, I bought a hood that I was told was for '67 but was actually an earlier hood. When I put it on I noticed it didn't line up with the apron properly.Grifspop wrote:If you look at the fronts, the earlier car's hood comes down further and the visible part of the apron is shorter. Re: earlier tail lights
If you look at an early front apron, the shift rod comes out a hole in the apron that is covered when the hood is closed. The later cars have a removable piece that allows you to pull the shift rod out with the hood closed.
