fuel line in tunnel

has any one ever changed the hard fuel line that goes through the tunnel on a 73 super beetle i was just wanting to see if it is able to even be changed with a major over hauling

just run a hard line next to the tunnel

I've talked with a few about the tubes in the tunnel.(Clutch specifically) and they can be removed/replaced. If its like a clutch tube replacement- you have to find where it is attached inside, cut access holes to get at those points, and remove/install throught the access plate at the front of the pan/tunnel.
(a SB has one of those too, right? I've never looked under a fat chick )

I've also heard of running a hard line against the pan, behind the running board too. You use a refridgerator water line, and plastic clips to attach it.You can get a 'kit' from a hardware store.

Why do you want to replace it?

the car smells like a gas station every thing has been replaced but that line an you only smell it in the car

i've never had to replace a hard fuel line before. I'd polly pressure test it first just to be sure. if its leaking gas, it will definately leak air. just rigg up a way to fill it with air via an air compressor, and put a guage on the other end. or pehaps even use one of those cheap vacuum pumps, and see if it will hold a vacuum. when ever i finish my darn motor, and when ever i can make it to your house, I'll bring my pump. has a guage and everything. Just gotta plug one side, hook the hoise to the pump, and it should tell us if its leaking.

another thing it might be are the vents in the gas tank. I had a bitch of a time trying to figure out a vent issue with my 74. i eventually just ran a line to the charcol canister, then to the air filter, and fan shroud. good luck
