The Newest Bugs4Christ Project 76 Westfalia
We got a call from a Scrapyard that someone brought this in for salvage and that we might want to come see it before they crushed it last week. What we found was a beautiful 76 Westfalia that is pretty complete. Cabinets, working sink, rear bench with wood paneling, a good camper with no holes in the popup, a dual carb motor that turns over with the key but doesn't start, etc. We even found a rolled up piece in the pop up that we had no clue what it was. Turns out it's the cot/canopy/cover or whatever you want to call it that rolls out and attaches to clips over the front seats, and even it's in great condition. All the cushions are there in all of their 1970's plaid glory, along with the ghastly yellow/gold 70's curtains!
We're gonna start working on it soon but will take time due to money constraints. Our goal is to use it to drive when we go to speak about our youth ministry. Here's a few pics, the top was already taken off so it would fit under the garage. Best part, they only charged us what they paid out for the scrap price, which was $321 .No joke.

Great find. It looks like she started out life as the same year model and color as "Pippi".

If you're not going to be keeping the original plaid interior I'd be interested in buying the fabric from the upper bunk from you. and possibly the curtains too, if they're in good shape.

Not a problem. I'll check with John, the main guy working on it...it's his baby. I think he is going to change the colors and curtains, and they are definitely in good shape. I'll let you knowperegrine67 wrote:If you're not going to be keeping the original plaid interior I'd be interested in buying the fabric from the upper bunk from you. and possibly the curtains too, if they're in good shape.
And yeah, it looks the same color as yours...my pictures are kind of light because of how bright it was today and it's a cell phone pic. It's that orangish/gold/yellow color. I like it, he doesn't LOL

[b]Ugly Cushions and Curtains
I can't imagine us having a use for the curtains or cushion covers. I am sure we can work something out.

I was reading about the ministry from a separate post. It's a great idea to combine the love of VW's and turn it into a real service for people.

Horrible cell phone pic, but the Westy has a dual carb setup on it one of the guys was trying to tighten this linkage on one of the Webers and it snapped. I'm not all that familiar with these so hoping y'all will know. Easy to find a replacement for this linkage? Anyone got one they wanna sell and ship to me cheap?

You can order the linkage from CB performance. Kind of pricey though.

Re: The Newest Bugs4Christ Project 76 Westfalia
Well, the guys started tear down of the Westy:
Working out the huge dent in the right rear, then we'll go from there. The guys are gonna try to get it finished in time for maybe March in Reynolds. Hopefully well before that, but that's just the long term goal to be completely done by sometime around then. John got us a new shop to work out of, over twice the size, just waiting on it to be finished for us to move in. We'll do an open house on a Saturday sometime in the next few weeks and we'd love to have any of y'all come down. We're also gonna start working on Saturdays on the cars we have. Any additional help is always appreciated and any expertise you can share would be great.
On a side note, we are always looking for anyone that's good with engine/carb/bodywork etc to come do a teaching day with the kids in the ministry. If anyone is interested in doing that sometime, just let us know, we'd love to have you.
