help with new king and links

So i just put on new tie rod ends and had new king pins reamed and pressed in by bobby over at advanced imports.

I just put everything back on and am having two problems.

1st the steering is extremly tight.
the spindles were hard to turn off the car but once they were on the car they seemed fine.

2nd when i turn the wheels all the way to the right and try to reverse the back of the right tire is rubbing against the pan.

any ideas? this suuucks

did you narrow tour beam if so they have a pit man arm were the ti rods hook on are off set try pushing a car that has been narrowed an turn its hardcause one wheel turns further than the other

Zabo, there is a left and right knuckle. The right side p/n ends in a even # and the left is odd. Your p/n may end in 351 and 352. Your right tierod is off. I would turn the steering lock to lock and then find center the steering box. Mine was like 1 3/4 turns to center the box. Next check the pitman arm to confirm its centered as well. May want a helper to turn the wheel for you. Once both of those things are right. See how far the alignment is out.

I just went through this on my '59, it turned more to the left then the right and rubbed on the left. Once the steering box was re-centered, pitman arm center confirmed and the front tape measure alignment, all was good. I still need to pull the steering wheel, its a 1/2 turn off.

thanks guys. i took them off to double check everything and they are still super stiff.

Going to have my wife take them over to bobby this afternoon to double check.

Ended up taking the king pins back up to bobby and he helped me out by reaming them a little more. Steering 100x easier now!

Hoping some tie rod adjustment will fix my rubbing problem!

That is what the rubbing sounded like. Maybe the steering box was off center when the wheels were lined up.

I know this is late, but, can you tell me where Bobby is at Advanced Imports? I have my 59 front end apart and what to put in new King and Link pins. I have them at Tom's VW on Austell Road, but, I'm just not getting a good feeling about it.

you are in carters ville y not just go to doug davis on main steet

Doug shop is been closed a lot lately, not really sure if he is open or has gone to a part time status? I did all my own press work and had Fluffy at Herrells in Carrollton ream the bushings. Cost was $20.00 ish. Call and ask.
