-a nice set of dual webbers 40 IDF's with either a 30mm or 32mm venturi's
-1.25 ratio rockers
-good set of 041 or 042 heads (they both come ported, and with bigger valves/ ports)
-good merged header, with end of your choice (stinger, single quiet pack, dual quiet pack, glass pack, etc.)
-full flow the right way

If you plan to split the case, then:
- engle 100 cam, maybe 110 (power band a little to high for my liking)
-case bored for 90.5 cylinders to make it a 1776
-74mm stroker crank
-balence rotating assembly
- the possibilities are endless

I'm really look on at bolt on stuff

then just these things:

I'd consider nicer heads bolt on, shouldn't take more then 1 day to install a new set of heads. or maybe even just do a little hand porting on the stock heads. either way will be an improvement. ratio rockers shouldn't take more then an hour to install. header should taker like 30 minutes.

If you do get a header, make sure its the smallest diameter pipe they sell. with a 1600, if you go to big, you lose exhaust velocity, since the pipes are smaller, and you won't get the merged extractor effect with a larger header. they are merged so when the exhaust shoots out of one cylinder, it creates a vacume in the other cylinders so exhaust is sucked out, instead of the piston having to push the exhaust out. if the pipes are too large, the exhaust won't have the speed to create this vaccume, and if the pipes are too small they are restrictive. but on a 1600 the smallest diameter header they sell is the best (can't remember the exact measurment).

but i'm telling ya man, get a turbo, its bolt on

Here's a pic of my old turbo set-up.

I'm pullin the motor (currently back to stock), and will be reinstalling the turbo back on very soon. just gotta take care of some oil leaks, and other little things before i slap the turbo back on. also plan on shortening the intakes, and raising the turbo above the alternator.

I want a turbo but I want an under the decklid and it's too much I can't afford one in less someone wants to sell me one

Dual carbs would help
40 kads are pretty easy to tune and were originally designed for the 1600

Ok how much should it cost. And I have a empi gt exhaust with the baffles taken out

either that or a centermount 44 IDF. The one on my 2074cc has been good to me. but the beauty of a 44IDF, is with a simple change of venturies, you can make it the same as a 40, or a 48.

I'm not much of a high hp pro, but the best bang for your buck would probably be a decent set of dual carbs. Though you may have to save up for a set, they'll probably give you the biggest noticeable hp gain.

like dual webber 40's

well those can be pretty pricey, unless you can find a good deal on a good used set. Maybe more along the lines of dual ICT's You can prolly find a good complete set with linkage, and everything for $200. dual 40's would prolly run around $500, maybe $400 if your lucky.

you can also go with a weber progressive. they are a really good carb once set up properly. It, like every other carb set-up, must be jetted properly before it will run 100% right. john at aircooled.net is the jetting, and tuning master. if you PM him on thesamba, he will give you recommendations, and jetting on how to properly set up almost any carb. almost everyone who has progressives doesn't jet or tune them correctly, and will then talk bad about it, and complain how it leans out, lol. I have a brand new progressive set-up I'd sell ya cheap if you were interested.


when they are set-up properly, they run amazingly well. a buddy of mine has a stock 1600 with a progressive, and it has a lot more power then my other buddies 1776 with dual ICT's. its a two barrel carb, one barrel is 32mm, and the other is 36mm, but at half throttle, the 32mm barrel is open, and when you floor it, the second 36mm barrel opens, and you have a LOT more power, lol.

This is the carb i used on my turbo set-up and it was great. a little tweaking of the jets and it was amazing. still never got it completely dialed in right (lazyness on my part, plus i was just guessing, and didn't find john at aircooled.net, lol. he gave me a list of jets that should work a lot better)

ratio rockers are supposed to mimick higher lift cams. 1.25's on a stock motor would provide a little more hp. but be prepared to re-set the rocker geometry. the rocker arms will have the adjustment on the pushrod side, instead of the valve side of the rocker arm. so you will have to get cut to length pushrods, as well as a pushrod adjustment tool (you can borrow mine if you want). stock pushrods will be too long. you will have to use the tool, along with shims under the rocker shafts to correctly set the angle of the rockers arms in relation to the valve and pushrod. sounds more complicated then it really is. its just another step you have to do.

There isn't a single thing thats really gonna give you a LOT of extra power. its really a combination of things that will get you more power.

for example. when i first got my 72 super, it had a 2074cc motor, with single 44IDF carb. it had a 78mm stroker crank, 120 cam, and 92mm pistons and cylinders, everything else was stock. It definately had more power then stock, but it just didn't seem like it was that much more. later i added 042 MOFOCO big valve ported heads, 1.25 ratio rockers, chromoly pushrods, matched the gaskets, and increased the CR a tad, it was MUCH better. lots more HP then before.

these are the rockers and heads on my 2074. these are the solid shafts, that get rid of those wavy washers and clips on stock rocker shafts. much strogner then stock. but if you notice the adjustment os on the pushrod side, instead of the valve side. so the adjustment part is much lower, thus the need for shorter pushrods. the cool thing with chromoly pushrods, is there is no gap when setting valves. you set the gap to 0, so no need for feeler guages, or fine adjustments, just yank on the rocker back and fourth untill there is no gap, and tighten.
