Check the damned market
okay, so everyone at work knows that im into vws. it seems they all have an uncle or a cousin with a bug sitting in their yard or some other story about vws. but i ran into this one woman that has a special kind of story about vws. her dad was really into them. and when he passed, he left her his estate. with his estate comes a 68 bug/truck that looks pretty damned good, a manx dune buggy, and a blue rail buggy. nice little collection. she asked if i was interested and saw the glimmer of excitement in my eye. i told her to get me pictures and prices, as well as an update on the status of the vehicles.
the next day she brought me photos. the cars were inside her dads shed for the last 4 years. unmoved and untouched. she told me $500 for the truck and 35 for each of the buggies. thats right. she said, "five hunerd for the truck thing and thirty five for the buggies. now i know that she didn't mean $35. i told her i may be interested in the truck (thats a big negative) and i agree to put out some feelers around the vw world for her cars.
no i won't. and ill explain why.
last week, a month after coming across this "deal", i again, asked her how much she wanted for the buggies. she abruptly spit out $4500 for the rail and $5500 for the buggy. it was clear she thought that i was asking b/c i may have found someone interested. i haven't even begun to look around b/c she is trying to screw someone out of alot of money.
why would i suggest to someone in one of our clubs that i know of a lady with a really shitty deal and she wants a lot of money for it?
$4500 will get you a fantastic rail in nearly new condition.
$5500 will get you an amazing dune buggy.
both of these vehicles would be in running, street legal, perfect condition. her cars haven't run in 4 years, have sat still all that time, and the engines are all locked up. *sigh*. i want to talk to her about the market value of the vehicles but it isn't my place. she didn't ask for my help selling the cars at market prices. she asked me to help her gouge a customer. a friend of mine. NOPE. not gonna happen. i could understand if the buggy and rail market in GA was scarcely populated. but it isn't there are a TON of these vehicles around. and she hasn't even tried to investigate a reasonable price.
they'll sit there. for a while yet.
ughh... i don't have a problem with people wanted to earn a profit. but this is a bit ridiculous. it isn't gold she is sitting on.
thats my rant for the day. sorry fellas. had to do it.

Re: Check the damned market
Not to dredge up a dead post, but it seems that here lately either people are wanting very reasonable money for a car that needs work or Big money for a driver....
Am I missing something here?
There is a fast back in TN that this dude bought last year for less than 1K, now it is back with NO work done on it and all the spare parts gone that were with the 1st deal, and he wants $4K for it (it still doesn't run...)
I'm sorry, but did I miss the rebound in the economy?
Crack, that is the only answer I have.

Re: Check the damned market
Lets face it, stuff (regardless what it is) is only worth what someone is "willing" to pay for it.
If the guy can make 3k on that fb then good job, kind of makes me want to ride around with a for sale sign
