Ugly Betty - My '65 Ragtop Euro...
OK,
I got this '65 3 weeks ago and it is a beast.
I decided to name it "Ugly Betty"
I'll get more Photos soon, but here are some teasers:
- PO had taped up the inside and bondoed over this mess. Top holes were cut with tin snips. messy.
- Bottom of apron had hit somthing, rest seems OK and accident free. This is after 15 min with a block of wood and some ball peen hammers of various sizes...
- Tears in the spare tire area after being re radiused. Will weld and grind...
- Rear had similar abominations as front where PO thought to cut apron with cut off wheel and then stoped, luckaly it isn't through at the bottom- weld weld weld.
- 1600 DP that is going in - Have the 1300 brest tin and breather for this engine. Ceramic muffler. Has a late 1300 trannie, so 200 mm flywheel is no prob.
- 2 fold (non '63 type) rag My daughter LOVES this car. I expect this will cause some discussin', but some buds and I cannot find where this car was seamed.
I thought I had a full shot, but this is all I have...
More later.

Dude, it's been 45 minutes, you don't have any more pics up yet???
After 63, the ragtops were only available on Euro Standards, not the deluxes. Standards and Deluxes are very different (trim, headliner, steering wheel, knob colors, and lots of other stuff). Post more pics and we can tell what you have. If it has been grafted, and it is that hard to tell, all the better, as it means someone did a pretty good job with it. Either way, it's a ragtop, and that is where the coolness is at!!!!

Re: Ugly Betty - My '65 Ragtop Euro...
Has the steering lock, black steering wheel and knobs (painted, but not well...)
The front and rear fenders that were on it are now residing on the PO's '66. The back fenders came off of his '66 and appear to be savable. The fronts are off of a '68 and are good, but not right.
Any way I want to get it running and driving (I hope by BAP) but I do not know if this is possible.
I am TRYING to get my '70 westy up and going as well (Much closer on that one.
Thanks for the info, it was originally a verry sandy brown color.
Close to the body color now.

Sounds like you got a mix-match of fenders with it . I've watched your wanted ad though, looks like you got just about all you need! Those steering locks are cool. Here is a good thread with more Standard details.

Hopefully we can see it at BAP. Heck you live close enough, you could almost just push it to BAP!

Re: Ugly Betty - My '65 Ragtop Euro...
I also inherated the '66's wheels with new hubcaps that will not fit over my hubs....
I plan on putting a set of wide 5 14" bus wheels with car tires on it. Keep the early hubcaps and smaller (cheaper) tires and they look like smoothies.

Thats one thing she definetly is....NOT original, but I refuse to make any irreversable changes.....in case 68's ever become valuable.
