Leaking oil from the nosecone?
My 98 sedan has been sitting for far too long. It sat in my basement for over a year with the engine out... but nothing leaking. I put it back together only to find I needed to order some more parts and re-fix the fuel line, so I had it towed to my new house... where it has sat in the driveway for a month. I noticed a couple of days ago that it looked like something was leaking, but it had been raining a lot so I thought perhaps it was just a wet spot underneath the car still. Well, today I went closer to the car and saw there was some milky substance in the crack on the driveway... sure enough... oil... I looked under the car and can tell it is coming from the nosecone area. Now... the car is sitting on a slight angle where the nosecone is the lowest part of the trans... It really isn't a big angle and I would not expect it to be leaking like this... but then again, I am not at all familiar with swing axles, so perhaps they are different than IRS? Is there something here I am going to need to fix or will putting my car back on a level surface and cleaning off the oil that has dripped out possibly fix it?

Re: Leaking oil from the nosecone?
i would try and tighten all the nose cone bolts you can reach 1st.
It shouldnt be leaking no mater the angle.
if that doesnt work you may need to pull it and check the nosecone bushings.
And since it is sitting at an angle make sure its not coming from somewhere else on the trans and running down to the nosecone.

the rest of the trans looked fine... I'd have to get under it to see more...
There are bushings on the nosecone that would leak externally? I was thinking it would probably be some sort of seal?

Re: Leaking oil from the nosecone?
theres a paper gasket between the nose cone and trans.
When the bushings in the nosecone are bad usually you get oil in the tunnel.

Hate to tell you but its toast. After the wreck and now this its not worth fixing again. Just let me know when you need it outta there and I will haul it off for free for ya.
How did you have it towed down? Flat tow or flat bed?

Re: Leaking oil from the nosecone?
Not sure why it does it, but have seen them weep after towing flat or with the rears on the gound. But usually that is from the piolot shaft vs the other end. Clean it up and watch it see if maybe it was overran and a bit came from the weep hole. That stuff is heavy weight so maybe a bit got pushed out and the warmer weather allowed it to drip. If dripping after that when sitting you do have an issue, but hopefully its just a fluke. Still anytime you get tired of looking at it just let me know!!!!! Like Homer simpson , mexi beetle, mmmmmmm, drooool!

I have to work on the fuel rail first... actually I never have changed the gear oil so this would be a good time. Battery is dead too and it hasn't been washed since it got painted... not that its really been driven either
