Man I hate to see that. That really sucks but it doesn't look all that bad. You should be able to have it back on the road in no time.
Remember it could always be worse... you both were able to get out and are ok. Thats whats important. Let me know if I can help

Re: Here's my 56ragtop oval(56HAVOC)
Wow- I thought that was just some great excuse cause you were to lazy to come out last night
sorry to see that man- what sparked to catch the air filter on fire like that?

No RIP for HAVOC
I agree with Scott, find the problem with the carb and clean it up. Damage don't look that bad, smoke and a little paint charing. You got a week, I feel for ya. I make a habit of looking to see what's happening behind me when I come to a stop. Cars, smoke and yes Fire! My main fear. Maybe your car has been cleansed by fire?
Fire extinguishers are a must for a VW Aircooled Owner!!

Re: Here's my 56ragtop oval(56HAVOC)
Mixture and timing can cause one to puke out of the carbs.........ignited. When I was tuning the bus, I had a fire ball roll down the ceiling.
Re: Here's my 56ragtop oval(56HAVOC)
Man Malik, I hate seeing these pictures. I think the shop will hopefully have you have up and going in a day or two. Except for needing a cleaning from the extinguisher dust, it really doesn't look all that bad. Aside from the air filter, nothing looks to crunchy. Of course you may need a paint touchup, but that can come after BAP. Keep us posted on what you find out.

Re: Here's my 56ragtop oval(56HAVOC)
From the title of the thread I thought something bad happened... that was just a paint blemish!
Sucks it happened, but I am glad that you had a fire extinguisher cause the one time I didn't... well... the images aren't for the faint of heart...
Glad the bug is okay and only had minimal damage! I hope this serves as a reminder for those who don't carry a fire extinguisher that there is NO reason not to and every reason to carry one!

Damn.......
Really hate hearing that.Thats one good lookin' dub.
But like the others have said it don't look too bad in the pics.
It could have been worse...
Hopefully it won't be that bad upon further inspection.
I know you will have it up and running in no time.
Now put the bottle down and get busy....

Oh mate, and all on my account. You were sorely missed.
I hope it's not too much of a bastard and she's running again and restored to her former glory.
See you soon

Doesn't look that bad. Just clean it up, find what went wrong and fix it. Good job on the fire extinguisher!! I'm sure many cars have burnt to the ground with lesser fires because of the lack of an extinguisher on board. (I carry two, just in case ), just hope I never need to use em.

I think I have four in my bus... honestly... if you don't catch it the second it starts you are not likely to get it out... A week after my car burned I helped a girl with a new beetle that had a small fire... my extinguisher did nothing
Actually... I should check my extinguishers... they are getting old.
