I was thinking the same thing - porta-walls.

Re: Identify These Tires
This is my old 61 porta walls all around. 135s up front and 165s in the back.
Re: Identify These Tires
Those walls are awesome. I have never heard of those. When I get new tires for the bus, I may check into those. Anyone seen a bus with them?

Dude, don't put passenger tires on your bus. C rated light truck tires give you a much smoother and safer ride. I'm sure you have read the exhaustive Tire Sticky in the Bay forum of the Samba. Now that I have switched to the proper weight load tires, I will never turn back. Just a bit of friendly advice

Re: Identify These Tires
Yea I have tried to read thru the tire sticky...all the whining back and forth kinda annoyed me. Very informative but sometimes tough to sift thru.
I will definitly get the correct tires when I replace them. I guess the portawalls can only be used on passenger tires?

Re: Identify These Tires
Porta walls will go on anything. Just be aware they take a little to get them to seat properly

Attorney Isaiah Loophole wrote:what would be the rating for bus tires (what is the two digit number?)
VW recommends a tire with a max load rating of at least 1540 lbs for buses. Here is all the info of the side of my new tires. "Yokohama Super Van 356 185R14 8P, they have a max load of 1850 lbs".
If someone wants to roll their bus with tires that meet VW recommendations, I found there are not a lot of options out there in a 14" tire. I had to be firm with the tire salesman about exactly what I wanted, and the tires had to be shipped in from another state. I have seen too many pics of buses and Vanagons with blown out passenger tires to risk putting anything else on my baby.
PS
sorry to hijack the thread

Re: Identify These Tires
Yeah my bus wont have the recommended tires on it. They just dont sell them for lowered buses. 195/50/15 up front and 195/60/15 in the back 82 and 88 ratings. Oh well

Re: Identify These Tires
That's really cool. I wonder how they were able to make the perfect circle around the tire.
