Transmission Oil

Wondering what type of Gear Oil you guys suggest for the Bus? (1970) I tried searching on the samba but couldnt really get a direct answer. Im thinking about giving the trans some fresh juice!

Most were saying 80W-90 GL-4. Does that sound correct?

Sounds right. You'll need about a gallon.

Just make sure that you can get the fill plug out BRFORE you drain it...

Not an issue in a stock height bus. You will need the pump that fits on the bottle. They sell them at just about every auto parts store. It screws onto the bottle and has a clear hose that you run to the fill.

Be aware the stuff smells like rotten eggs :Blah: so try not to make a big mess.

Hey Rich- I used a Hypo Gear Oil GL4 and it has worked very well. Your trans is roughly the same as mine and you will need just shy of a gallon. 3.65 quarts. I recommend a gallon and a pump. Simple pump until it runs out.
