Breast Cancer Bus Tech Day
We as a club have an opportunity to see what we can accomplish in a day before we start on a club project car.
Scott, whom many of us met last month at Sonic, has a 79 Bus that he wants to convert into a rolling ad for breast cancer awareness. He has driven it and says that it runs rough and needs the brakes checked. He has a guy who is going to handle painting it pink. He also said that if we put some time into it that when it is finished he would include an acknowledgment on the bus for the club's work. (Good PR)
I talked it over with Bryce and a few other club members and there seems to be quite a bit of interest. Please post if you would be interested, and which upcoming Saturday or Sunday would work best for you.
Thanks!

Re: Breast Cancer Bus Tech Day
Hey everyone it's Scott...I have the bus for this project. That's a great response by all of you guys! I guess Gordon is heading things up on date/dates? The only Saturday that I have where I will not be available is the 15th of August. I really look forward to working with all of you and seeing if there is a cure for VW fever. I am not interested in being treated for VW fever......just wondering![img][/img]

Re: Breast Cancer Bus Tech Day
I'm definitely up for helping out. Unfortunately, my next three weekends are pretty booked up though. Ya'll just set a date, and I'll try to re-organize whatever I have so that I can make it out and lend a hand.

Re: Breast Cancer Bus Tech Day
Lets plan on the 22nd of August for now. That looks like a good weekend for those who have replied, and gives Scott nearly a month to determine what our plan of attack on the bus should be. It may be a good idea for a few of us to get together and give him a hand in doing that. Maybe after Sonic on the 8th?

Id like to give a hand, not sure how much help I would be! It would be a good time to learn some things and its for a great cause. My mom is actually a BC survivor.
Any pics of the bus now?

Re: Breast Cancer Bus Tech Day
lol, i think that goes for me too. never worked on a bay before, but tell me what to do and i'll do it. are we just gonna copletely redo the brake system (new MC, hoses, shoes, hardware, etc.), or is it just a simple bleeding, and maybe new shoes? any specifics on that yet? or is the 8th really just gonna be inspection day?
Also the 22nd will prolly be perfect for me, because i can request that day off of work since the schedule hasn't been made yet, so i'll prolly be able to work on the bus all day. Can't wait
and X2 about the pics. LETS SEE 'EM

Re: Breast Cancer Bus Tech Day
Scott here! I have been cleaning out a nice work area in the garage to begin the breast cancer bus project. I guess I'll get it up and get the wheels off and make it do-able to inspect the brakes and suspension. I will get pictures up of it before I start breaking it down. If there is anyone that wants to come by whenever and put in there 2 cents worth please come on. My cell # is 404-401-0139. I live at 35 Melody lane, Stockbridge, GA 30281. I am off every weekend and home after church on Sunday. I am really excited about this project. This is the very first time I have ever seen ANY interest in the VW's from my wife. This is going to be a real head turner and a great way to get out the message on breast cancer as well as Air-cooled Airheads and Georgia Dubs. By the way ....how do you put pictures up on this forum...I have tried before but no success. I hope to talk or see you guys soon, Scott
The 22nd is great but I will be tinkering on most weekends! I will plan on the 8th also!

Re: Breast Cancer Bus Tech Day
howdy. the only way to post up pics is to have them on an online picture hosting site (ex. photobucket, myspace, thesamba, etc.). then all you do is copy the URL of the pic (ex. www.website.com/your_pic.jpeg), click the button with the picture on it (7th button from the right), paste it in the box that pops up and hit "OK".
BTW, i live like 10 mins from you. and will actually be going down swanlake, and old conyers in like 15 mins (going to popeye's ). so if you happen to read this before then, call me at 404-219-7174, and i'll stop by and take a quick look..... Hell, i'll prolly drive by anyway, lol.

Re: Breast Cancer Bus Tech Day
just came back from scott's house. Got a look at the bus. It has an almost perfect interior, and the body is in excellent shape. a little surface rust here and there, and there are only a few rusted thru holes, but that looks like it might have just been a scratch that wasn't taken care of, and eventually rusted thru, because the rusted thru holes are only about a pea size wide, and the rust only about a silver dollar size. The rest of the body will prolly shine nice if waxed (yeah its that nice). So we won't be working on a pile or anything . It looks like all it will need to stop is a bleeding. might need rubber lines, but they didn't seemed cracked or anything, so we'll see.
Also the motor wouldn't stay running. i heard somewhere that those late model bus engines are notorious for developing that problem, but can't remember what part it was. Any of you bus guys can chime in on the subject.
this is gonna be a fun project for sure. can't wait to start tearing into it

Re: Breast Cancer Bus Tech Day
Scott, after you load your pictures to photobucket, keep the photobucket gallery page open. Open a Georgia dubs window and start a reply. Then go back to your photobucket gallery and move your mouse over the picture that you would like to post here. A drop down box will appear under the picture. Move your mouse to the text that stays "IMG code" left click and you'll see the text to the right become highlighted. Then hit "Ctrl C" (copy) and then paste it "Ctrl V" to the reply box in Georgia dubs. That will post the img link to the reply box. It will show up only as text until you hit "send" or "preview" in the georgia dubs window. Hope that helps.

Third time is a charm!
You want pictures...I think I have it right this time...As they say, sometimes quickly...sometimes slowly.
One bit of good news.. God was shining His ever-present Grace and Mercy's really Brightly upon me this weekend. I got my 69 Ghia up and running yesterday. Steering column was disassembled due an ignition switch problem. And my 76 Westy is out of mechanical restoration and 90% cosmestic restoration. There is no question that I will be driving one of these at the next meeting!

Anyone know of where to get a half way descent set of used/new tires for the bus?
Has 14 inch tires 175-195/60-80/r14
Looked on craigslist and checked some tire stores in Stockbridge.
They have tires but not really in the price range.
Just wanted to check and see if anyone new of good deals or know of someone who can get good deals?
Talk with you soon,
Scott

Re: Breast Cancer Bus Tech Day
Tirerack.com has some kumho's 175/70/r14 for $42 each. I got tires from them before and the shipping cost was reasonable and very quick since they have a warehouse in GA. Stockornaut is also selling tires, though I'm not sure what sizes they can get.
Just noticed the Jucifer sticker on the overhead panel. Haven't heard anything from that band in while

Re: Breast Cancer Bus Tech Day
Since it doesn't carry all of the weight that a Westy does you could get by with lower rated tires. I run Firestone
cheapos on my Vanagon and I've had very good luck with 'em...I think the brand name is Primewell...they were very
reasonable.
