Fuel tube popped off my 67's carb one day and sprayed fuel all over a hot engine. Everything under the decklid was on fire. Put it out with an extinguisher, hammered the fuel tube back in the carb with vice grips, taped up the burned wiring with electrical tape and drove 15 miles home that way. The fire department was awfully happy when I cleared the city limits...

Ripped speaker wire out of my door to repair a throttle cable.

Same as the rest. Throttle cable snapped right at the pedal. Used the metal clip from a pen cap. Put the cable through the holed end of the clip and bent it, then put the hooked end of the clip through a hole on the pedal.

Repaired throttle cable with zip ties, seems like alot of roadside throttle cable repairs are being done!!

I used a paper clip and a key ring to reattach the cable to the dual carb linkage.

I am replacing my throttle cable TODAY! .....

shoe retainer spring on the old single broke in alabama once that was fun at 1am. lots of fuel pumps. the worst was on the single when the tie rod broke and messed up the clutch and throttle cable at the same time but breaking down is half the fun of driving a vw

Pulled my speaker wire out and ran a new wire from the coil to battery after switch went bad. Not neccisarillaly a fix but pulled the aux power wire under the bus to use as a fish line to unlock a friends bug who locked his keys in it. The looks when I climbed under the bus and cut the wiring out were pricelss. guys were like wtf don't you need that! but it worked!

I JB Welded the pivot pin on my new fuel pump. I heard that helps keep it from creeping out. I only bought a new pump because I installed an alternator.

No, Not knowing when your going to break down is the fun of driving a VW!

Used a piece of solid strand wire and electrical tape to replace the tab on the inside of the distributor cap where the coil wire goes. It had melted off and would not throw the arc to the rotor button. May sound stupid but it got me home...

man o man where to start. broke throttle cable twice.

first time. when i has my stock set-up. cable broke at pedal. pulled it out wrapped it around intake, and was able to pull it to rev up. was really short, and had to keep the door open while i drove to reach.

second time. when i had my turbo set-up. took an old plug wire that i kept in my emergency kit (i really should keep a throttle cable in there, lol). i was late to work, so i tied the throttle about 1/3 open, and started the motor up and drove to work. everyone was staring at me when i had to stop at a light the car would rev up fast, then i shut it off, and when the light was green i had to quickly turn it on, and get it going

fuel line tore spilling gas everywhere, but didn't catch on fire. was rubibng on body, and wore a hole in it. used some electrical tape i had, and used the whole roll to wrap the line to get me home. worked pretty good. didn't leak a drop.

when i blew my motor the day before YUbuggin, i rebuilt it but didn't realize metal shards made its way to the turbo. so while driving with the new motor, the turbo started grinding. i pulled the intake hose off, and saw the turbine was destroyed, and the nut holding it on fell off, but was still turning and basically tearing itself to pieces. but i was about 7 miles from home. so to prevent the turbo from spinning, i took a flat tip screwdriver, and stuck it in the exhaust side of the turbo, to keep it from spinning, and took a small stubby screw driver and stuck it in the intake side of the turbo to keep the mangled wheel from spinning from the air comming in. ran like shit and because the turbo wasn't spinning, it was like i was hauling a ton of bricks, because of the horrible restriction of air on both the exhaust and intake, but i got home.

when i first bought my bug, the battey cable crapped out on me, and burnt up. so i took some speaker wire i had, ripped it out, and went from the battery to the coil, and was able to bumpstart it, and get home.
