Re: 1961 beetle "josie"
It only sat outside at the shop for 8 months. That couldn't have anything to do with maybe some broken rings from rust in the cylinders.

Re: 1961 beetle "josie"
i put the tierods on and they hit the body so i did the flip kit thing and relized they only work with balljoint tie rod ends.
so now i have to get bj tierods and ends and ill have to steal the steering box off the ragtop
one step forward and two steps back...

Re: 1961 beetle "josie"
You can just replace the 2 outer ends. There's no need to swap steering boxes.

So just get new outer tierods? The threads that go into the tierod are the same?

Re: 1961 beetle "josie"
take a break, it'll go easier tomorrow. Me, Bob, Shaky, and Callahan spent about 3 hours fighting with the trans on the bus the first time we installed it. Just didn't want to go for some reason. I replaced the front mount about a month later and had to pull/install the whole thing by myself and was prepared for another battle, but it went back in with no problem. Somedays they go together easily, and somedays they are a pain.
You need to quit messing with this one anyways and focus on the ragtop fool!

Re: 1961 beetle "josie"
ahhh, yeah I took the 67 axles out of mine, but Callahan and Bob took charge of putting the 68 axles in, while me and shaky were messing with the shiftrods, so I got to miss out on that fun.
