Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Well I rebuilt and tuned the 30 pic carb today, made a rear hatch seal and replaced the points on the bus. Somebody had put the wrong points in and the lead wire was shorting on the distributor shaft. I also found a broken float when I stripped the carb down. She's running good now and I'm not getting choked out by exhaust fumes anymore thanks to the new seal.

What did you use? Got any pictures? I have been wanting to replace mine for a while...but $96 for a rubber seal? Tough to pull the trigger on that one.

$20 from summit. I'll post a pic of it later but it was universal trunk seal.

I wasn't going to pay $90 either! I bought this one instead, and like Kip, I can now drive around without getting buzzed. I don't know how well the quality of this one is compared to the $90 ones, but it fit fine. I've really only had it one a month or so, so I can't speak for how well it'll hold up.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
I bought the expensive German one and I like that one better!
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Got some pics.
I 45'd the top corners and glued them together with weatherstrip adhesive. I had to trim the stripping down around the latch area and the whole top area. Turned out pretty good and i saved 70.00 and that will buy a bunch of cervesa.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Wow, that looks pretty darn good man for $20!
I got an early start this morning before work and started getting prepped for my tranny swap this weekend. Pulled the engine in about 15-20 minutes! Not really much to brag about for the average person, but it was always such a hassle pulling the engine from the bug, that this just really made me smile!
Also went ahead and broke loose the frame horn bolts, so I hope to have a little spare time today and maybe get the old transaxle out.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
got my sexy new intake from john at aircooled.net, for my 44 IDF. also a new filter. the quality of the intake is nice, but the instructions were useless. the diagram of the parts were wrong, and the instuctions were just difficult to follow. so i did the manly thing, and tossed them in the trash and figured it out myself. i tend to develop ADD when it comes to instuctions anyhow.

I need to find an alignment shop near me that'll do 45 year old cars.
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Think any shop should be able to do it if you bring them the specs. The problem is the modern machines don't have the info preprogrammed. They messed with mine for the better part of the morning and it cost me a pretty penny.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Went to Napa this morning and picked up the primer and beryl green paint for the 60. Also started putting a used rear clip on it. Its not an h apron but it will work for the budget I have been given to build the car with. Sold the square today too!
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
So how many consecutive days do you have to drive a car before it becomes a "daily driver"?
Since rebuilding the front end I'm up to 5 days in a row and over 100 miles total.
