Need Windshield Guy!

Looking for a contact to come install my windshield for me. All the local shops don't want to do rope seals with the original windshield.
Anyone got a contact they can share or be willing to do it themselves for $$$?

Just replaced all my window seals while at the fire station . soapy rope and an extra hand you can do it.

Did all mine myself also. Get your wife or girlfriend (or both) to help. It will get them involved.

I got some good white rope that was about 3/16 in thick. I put new rubber around the glass, being mindful of the seam on the outside edge of the rubber.If you place the seam correctly, you can cover it up with the aluminum molding clip, if you are doing American Look and not Cal Look (Cal Look does not use molding.) I then pushed the rope into the inner seal that folds over the metal edge of the window opening. Leave 5-6 inches of rope hanging out towards the inside of the cab so you have enough to pull on. Put a good bit of dish washing soap on the rubber to help the seal go into place when you pull the rope through. Place the glass in the opening and have someone hold it while you get inside the car. GO SLOW. Pull a little bit through at a time while your helper is pushing on the glass from the outside. (They do not have to push with all their might!) On the windshield, have them kinda follow you with their hand pressure. You should see the seal start to roll over the lip. If a small spot does not do right, you can fix it with a flat head screwdriver (just do not poke through your headliner like I did). If a large spot (3-4 inches) does not pull through, you will probably have to start over. It can be a pain. I went with the American Look and reused my old molding. It cleaned up nice with some aluminum polish. It will be a lot easier if you go Cal Look, but not as satisfying .

If you do not have a new windshield, get one. They are only like $50 and make a world of difference in visibility. I got one just for that reason. Old ones have that smoke between the glass around the edges.

We are going to give it one more try tonight. I have 2 guys coming to help instead of the usual one. Because the windshield is so wide we couldn't keep pressure on both sides so after I got one side done on the bottom, the other side would pop out. Having 2 guys should help.
If we can just get the bottom done around the edges, we should be good to go. It is hard because you can't even see the bottom lip because of the angle and the dash.

SP2!!!! Those are junk, you need to drop it off over here and you can take the bug outa here so it will be easier to work on!!!

My word of advice on installs is use 10 gauge wire. Thinner and the sheath slides real well against the rubber with soapy water. Also sit the glass with seal in the sun for awhile to heat it up. Will help soften the seal and laminate in the glass so it will not crack as easy.

Got the windshield in today!! Yippee.. Just needed another set of hands on the outside to keep the pressure down..
