In memory of my dog

I'm sure you pet lovers will understand how much I'm hurting this morning.

He was diagnosed with cancer only a month ago. I awoke around 7:00 AM
and went to see him. He tried to rise but couldn't, but he wagged his tail. I touched his head and told him it will be alright and he laid back down. I had called a Vet that will come to your home to put your pet down and she was on her way. I called her cell phone and said it wasn't necessary as Bowtie whimpered a little and exhaled and was gone at 8:30 AM.
I buried him a few moments ago between my shop and the house behind the Japanese Maple. I will pass his grave every day and remember when he was a puppy and all the years he slept in my room.
When he thought it was time to get up he would jump on the bed and put his butt in the air with his chest on my chest with his front legs folded. I'd wake up laughing out loud because of the strange way he chose to wake me up. The louder I laughed the faster he would lick my face.
To say I'll miss him would be an understatement. I loved him very much he was a good dog and my best buddy.

I'm so very sorry, I know how you feel. It was hard when I found my dog lifeless one morning.

I lost my dog this last september. he was a chihuawa (could never spell that right) mixed with a miniature pincher. he was 18 years old, and i got him when he was one. his name was renny when he died i was 19, so i had him when i was 2. He had numerous medical problems, but was alway active. His main problem was he had a bad heart. it was functioning at 20% because he had a bad valve (which is common in those small dogs). but even with a messed up heart he could still jump 5 feet high. i have one of those wooden doors from my garage to the laundry room, but the top half of the door has windows, and i would always see his little head thru the door when i came home cause he was jumping up. anyway, he was on two different medicines, but what we didn't know was that if you give him both at the same time, it causes temporary kidney faliure. but he was on that for over a year. it wasn't till he sprained his leg one day, and the doctor gave him some pain killers, but the side effects were also temporary kidney faliure. the combinations was just too much, and his kidneys failed altogether. He was getting bad. so we hd to take him to the vet, and have him put down. i dug a nice little grave for him in my backyard, next to my other dog who died shortly after i got renny. its next to a big old tree, and a group of large boulders. as i type this it brings a tear to my eye remembering all of the good times we had. and all the little funny things he did, that i'm so used to.

we kept him in the laundry room, which has the door to the garage, and renny would always come right to the door when i opened it, so i always had to push him out of the way, to clear the door. and when i came in i had to watch where he was, cause he would always get right in front of you and i would always step on him by mistake. To this day, i still carefully open the door, thinking in gonna hit him, or watch my step, thinking in gonna step on him. so many little things i did, that were already second nature, such a smaking sure i don't step on him, or everytime i opened the garage, i listen for him to start barking. It feels so strange, to not have to do those things anymore.

Sorry to hear that. I had my dog Sasha for 17 years before I had to put her down last year. Is was a great burden on my heart to do that.

Bert, I'm sorry to hear about your dog. I too lost one over a year ago and stiil get emotional when I think about her. She was 16 when we had to put her down. My thouhgts and prayers go out to you.

Our pets are very often full fledged members of our families, sharing our joys and every other part of our lives. When they are with us everyday, for so many years we of course become very attached. May your memories of your four legged friends be with you forever. They are truley blessings to be able to share our lives with.......
continue to be the person your dog knew you really were. And when you ready, may you find just as much joy in adding a new member to your family and to your home.

Bert, I have two dogs now which are my buddies but I lost the best dog I ever had in 2006. Her name was Trixie and she was a Lab-Pitbull mix.She came into this world knowing what her job was, to be by my side, go everwhere with me and sleep under my bed. Her grave is out near my driveway so I pass by her everyday. I have a picture of her in my room. I know how you feel . Regards, Jim

Sorry to hear about your loss. We had to put our Westie of 15 years down, two summers ago and still struggle with it every now and then. It will get better in time.

Thanks to everyone who replied. Please know that I am bolstered by your kind words. I'm dealing with it as best I can.

Yes, he was a good dog and he was always glad to see everyone. He was obedient and gentle. One of the best dogs I've ever had. As the hours have gone by since this morning's sad end of his life I am getting more comfortable with his passing due to the fact that I had been watching him die a little each day for over a month. I was in denial thinking he was going to get better as he rallied occasionally; seemingly better but with continued weight loss and lack of strength. I saw, in reflection, I was only lying to myself. I'm glad he is no longer in pain or afraid. I loved him very, very much and I will miss him until I die.

Oh man sorry to hear it..

About 2 years ago I lost my dog she was rott weiler and lab mix, PENNY I had her 14 years and she was getting old I had just come off the road from a us tour, and she couldnt even walk I lyed down next to her, as she looked at me in pain, I just patted her on the head and told her its ok you can go it was like she understood me! because at that moment she looked at me again tilted her head took a breath and by the time her head got to the floor she was gone man I balled like a lil girl! but I still to this day carry her dog tag on my wallet chain!!!

Our Pets are never forgotton!!!!!

As I type through these tears I hear the dreaming whimper of my own beloved Alli. She lay at the foot of the bed where she has for 12 years now. Bert, the unconditional love that a dog gives can be matched by none other. I am truly sorry for your loss and may your heart heal in time but your mind never forget.

Sorry to hear about your dog Bert. I've been there before with our old cat who was around 19 when she died. It will get a little easier each day. After time passed, we did as Don mentioned, and added another member to our family. This time a little puppy. Had him just over a year and I already don't know what I'd do without him.
