68-69 Empi Imp
Went to almost Cocoa Beach and picked up a rough Empi Imp. I have enjoyed the truck buggy so much that I wanted to build either an Allison or Imp. Found the Imp first and I am excited to build it.
Re: 68-69 Empi Imp
I bought a Allison from my brother in florida he wanted to put a water cool motor in it, it needs a lot of work

Post up some pics. An Allison would have been my second choice. I love that body style too!

Re: 68-69 Empi Imp
It will be awhile before I mess with the Imp but I am definitely looking forward to it! Plans are more for a street buggy....lowered on staggered Empi Sprint Stars and I will probably stay with an orange color since the body was originally the orange color you see. Need to find me an empi gtv steering wheel and maybe some kind of empi shifter....would like an empi eliminator but I may just settle for the Flat Four Copy and probably some delswift mirrors too!
I am really liking the flake on this one! Love the stagger on the wheels but it needs to be just a little lower though...

Re: 68-69 Empi Imp
Still gathering parts for the imp but I did reproduce me a front badge out of vinyl! Next time I will get chrome vinyl instead of the silver.

Re: 68-69 Empi Imp
Finally finished cutting out the rest of the center from one of the junk yard 15x7. I also went ahead and cut out one of my 4 lug sprint stars and mocked it up with stock back spacing in the 7" wide hoop. Looks pretty good but I am not sure it will be wide enough for the buggy.....
Re: 68-69 Empi Imp
I finally decided to just use the 66 pan I already had so yesterday I got to cutting on it. Today I finished welding it up and started working on the chassis firewall support. Since the chassis needed this piece replaced because of rust I flipped it around so the master cylinder hole is on the right side in prep for the rhd pedals. To make it work I had to chop both ends off and flip them side to side and weld them back on. I also had to make two cuts to space the piece out enough so it would sit all the way down on the frame head and not just sit on the tunnel.

I finished welding up the front support but it is not welded on yet. I also got the tunnel modified for the rhd pedals.
Re: 68-69 Empi Imp
Not much progress has taken place in the last year. I did mock the pan up a week or two ago so I could store the body and pan together. I also came across a set of 15x8" wheels for cheap and cut them apart to use the 8" barrels instead of the 7" ones.
