Smoking bug

It was a treat to meet a few of you guys last weekend at say it loud, and to see your rides.
I drove my bug for the first time last weekend for about 3 miles and 20 minutes or so and it smoked when I turned it off. It seems to be coming from the drivers side around the manifold. There is also a smell. It does not smoke out of the tail pipes. What could it be? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you probably have a leaking valve cover. If the gasket is bad it can leak right down on the exhaust and of course burn off. I would check that first
