Callaway Gardens Show
AUGUST 31st
Open show so not VW ONLY, but there were a good many (VW's) last year.
Lots of neat cars, but the best part is for the $10.00 entry, you can pack as many as you can in the bug, bus, or buggy and all get in the gardens for that same ten bucks!
Last year there were balloon rides, and all the garden attractions were open, You can swim at the beach, chase butterflies or whatever! There was also some gal singing. The wife & I enjoyed it. Gonna bring the grandyoungun this year, she'll have fun I know.

Thinking about going, any suggestions on where to stay that is close, safe and won't break the bank?

Re: Callaway Gardens Show
Just 20 minutes from home. Mortgage paid off, two loud dogs, owner is packing, so fairly safe there!johnvalkennedy wrote:Thinking about going, any suggestions on where to stay that is close, safe and won't break the bank?
Lagrange, Newnan, or West Point have good places to stay. A bit further south, Columbus does as well and you could do the Civil War Naval museum, or the Infantry Museum at Ft Benning. You could also go over to Plains/Americus Saturday and visit Andersonville, Sunday or work back up I75 via Warner Robbins and see the Air Museum.
There is camping available in Pine Mountain. Google "pine mountain camping." http://www.pinemountaintrail.org/?page=67 looks interesting too. The Callaway rates go from around 79 bucks on Thursday to 359 on Saturday, so I wouldn't suggest that! IF you want REAL cheap, you are welcome to camp on my place, or even pull up a floor!

Re: Callaway Gardens Show
I received quotes from two hotels in LaGrange that offered discounted rates: Baymont Inn & Suits @ $62.00 per night and Hoffman Inn @$55.00 per night. Call and ask for the "VW special". Next door to Cracker Barrell and 23 miles from Callaway Gardens.
Baymont - 706-885-9002
Hoffman Inn (formally Holiday Inn Express) - 706-812-8000

Re: Callaway Gardens Show
I think there were about 14 VW's there last year mixed in amongst the 250 total show cars. Some of us met up before entering the park so we could try to park together. Last year we met at the Chevron on the corner of 354 and 27 around 9:30am. Anybody want to do that again??? I'm flexible on the meet-up time.

Re: Callaway Gardens Show
Man it was stupid HOT out there today!!!!!
Here's VW row
(closest to farthest) mrjel, me, callahan, john, tom, some guy from montgomery whose name I can't remember
Not pictured: Jack had his bus there inside the bigtop, also had the orange V8 bug that is usually there, the pink/peach ragtop, one of the scumbugz guys had his green half bug half trike, and the Fort Benning ratrod bug/truck was also there.
Total of 280 general show cars, 11 of which were VWs. Definitely a cool show if you are into all types of cars.

Don't know if I would have won or not! I wilted prior to the end (I can blame it on the granddaughter:) Didn't buy any 50/50's, and I knew it was cool at home, so,,,,,,,,,,,,
