I saw a thread on the Samba site, and thought maybe we could have one like it for GA daily drivers.
And I wanted to see what people are running and using for dependability in this area.

car : 67 beetle
engine : I believe stock 1500 displacement, but single port. Cheap merged header w/ glasspack
Carb: Brosal h30/31
Distributor: 009 mechanical advance
trans : stock (I think)
Brakes: stock drums
Gas: 89 or higher
Oil: 20w50 for now
Tires : Pirelli
mpg: ? My gas gauge doesn't work
Average miles driven/ day: 50-60

Wish list for better driving; lower front end , new rubber to keep rain out

Mine is a convertible, so it doesnt get driven in terrible weather, but otherwise I drive it a lot. Drive it to shows that are 3-4 hours away. Usually at around 65-70 mph the whole way. Even with my heavy foot, I seem to get around 26 MPG. Lots of torque and a great daily driver engine.

Stock heads rebuilt and de-shrouded
Stock cam
Dual 40mm Kadrons
019 Distributor with points
All cooling tin, including hoover bit and thermostat with flaps
Tri-mil "hotdog" muffler ceramic coated.
Stock 62 Tranny
145 tires on front, 195 60's on rear.
Stock drum brakes
10w40 castrol
Cheapest gas I can find

Just depends on which one has enough fuel in it....

engine : 1300sp with lots of miles with mexican vw stock exhaust
Carb:30 pict 1
Distributor: 034 with points right now as the 205k is having issues
trans : 4.12
Brakes: front disc
Gas: 87
Oil: 20/50
Tires : 165/60/15 and 205/65/15
mpg: 28ish
Average miles driven/ day: 60 plus until recently all back roads
Suspension: Drop spindles, 3-4 inch narrowed adjustable beam cant remember, 2.5" dropped spring plates

car : 1964 Beetle
engine : 1600sp with unknown before mileage....25k+ since 2009 stock exhaust
Carb:30 pict 1
Distributor: 009....with points replacement module
trans : 4.37
Brakes: front disc
Gas: 87
Oil: 20/50

Average miles driven/ day: About 32 miles per day. Been to 5 Bulli's, 3 Trips to the keys, several trips to BAP, and one trip to Cali and back. Close to 90K since I got it back on the road.
Suspension: Flipped spindles in the front (3 1/2 inch drop) adjusted for level cruise in the rear.

Hey here's my info:

car : 1964 Beetle slammed on its teets still 6 volts
engine : original stock not rebuilt just resealed 40 hp
Carb: 30/31, new
Distributor: original stock vacuum advance
trans : original stock not rebuilt
Brakes: stock, new
Gas: cheapest crap I can find wherever I'm at
Oil: GTX 20/50
Tires : front 145-65, rear 185-60
mpg: mid to high 20's. Drastically reduced if there is crap on the roof rack,no highways, not fast enough Laughing
Average miles driven/ day:100. Longest trip to date 130 miles from Chattanooga area, that was on I-75 and was getting passed by motor homes cheers
