Starter and clutch as well.
Do a forum search on SAMBA. I'm sure someone there has done that.
Why not just use a 6v flywheel?

you can run a 65 bus flywheel 200mm clutch and run your 6v starter on a 12v system if you dont crank on it for ever it will work good we use to use them on rails

if you do i think you also have to change the starter bushing in the trans.

That's why type4revolution suggested you use a starter for a semi auto trans they do not use the bushingmike hardigree wrote:if you do i think you also have to change the starter bushing in the trans.

Re: 12 v flywheel on a 40 horse?
I have done both, used the 12V flywheel with 12V starter on my 40 in my 65. Right now I'm using a 6V flywheel with 6V starter on the 40HP with a 12V system and it cranks up a lot better. But as mentioned you don't want to crank on it for a long time. If you have a 65 or older trans you will need to clearance it for the 12V flywheel.
Re: 12 v flywheel on a 40 horse?
We had a '66 Beetle that had been converted to 12 volts- still had the 6 volt starter- tap the key and it starts!!! Like Eric said, you don't want to crank it for a long time and burn it up

My 66 is converted to 12 volts. I use a 6 volt starter with a 12 volt solenoid and a 6 volt flywheel
