Corvair powered 'Koyote'
KOTCB allowed me to jump on this MOST Excellent buggy deal for Dad's Day. A valiant attempt at a previous Father/Son project went horribly wrong with an engine fire after they attempted to start their newly built big bore VW engine.
As is expected, extensive damage to the engine but not too bad to the rear of the buggy body. In any case, after some body repair by the son, and the passing of time, the project was abandoned and Mom wanted the floor space back in the garage.
The buggy was put on local CL for an unbelievable price and I was lucky enough to be the 1st caller.
Now I would like opinions from you guys as to which way to go with Corvair power:
1) I have a reverse rotation 140hp along with all the adaptors for the VW transaxle EXCEPT for the starter.
2) I have a complete 'Transvair' setup with Corvair Early Model Power Glide drivetrain and 110hp with weber carbs.
I plan to use the buggy as street legal/parade vehicle with an occasional autocross.
As you will see from the pics, I could easily put the 140 in the buggy and be on the road in no time. The transvair setup will need some cleaning and painting/powder coat/chrome and will be a winter project.
Body will need to be finished. Wiring harness was burned and will need complete redo. Love the Mags but not sure yet if they will be salvageable.
I have never owned or driven a corvair powered buggy. My local club, friends and family will be involved but I would also appreciate the opinions, comments, suggestions and/or ideas from the forum.
Thanx!
