Hi everyone. I'm still here and planning on making it to a Sonic meet one of these days. Car just still needs a little more work. I have finished the headliner, all seats are covered, and the ragtop is installed. I'm getting some new tires mounted Wednesdsay, and then I'll get back to the old windshield. I took about a month hiatus from working on the windshield to finish other items. I'll try and post a more updated pic with the ragtop installed and freshly painted rims in a few days. I can't wait to get this thing driving. bounce

Not too much. To get it tagged and on the road, all I really need is to get the window in and wheels back on and get some shocks, and some bumpers (are bumpers required for inspection in GA?). I need to order a carpet/rubber mat kit and then install my seats and door panels. But that won't take long to install. Just need some time to work on it but since it's not at my house I can only get around it a few times a week for a few hours. Once it get's tagged, I'll move it from my parents basement to my garage. Then I can work on all the small finishing details. Not much longer... wait, wasn't I saying that months ago!

Dont need bumpers for inspection. The only inspection they will do is look at the vin and verify it is not stolen and you dont have to get that done if the car has been registered in ga in the past so many years. This applies even if you dont have the bill of sale from the most recent registered owner.

Yeah, I'll have to get it inspected. When I got the car, it had a Tennessee tag on it with a '87 sticker, so I don't think it's in the GA system. I've got the original bumpers but they have seen better days. I plan on getting some wolfsburgwest bumpers but I'll have to save up a little while longer for those.

If you have the title you won't need to get it inspected at all. My '65 came from IL and hadn't been on the road since 90. I took the title in to have it transfered to my name and just like any other vehicle as long as you have insurance in the system for it they will give you a tag without having to even look at the car. Did the same thing with my '65 Mustang.

My bus was never titled in GA. Didn't have to take it to the DMV only have a cop come out (somthin like $20) and run the VIN to make sure it wasn't stolen. Then I ran up to order my custom tag with nothing but a bill of sale. Nothing more.

Here is the the link to all the DMV forms in Gwinnett county. They should apply state wide or you can look up your county.

Thanks. I have already gotten the forms from my County office (I got them a while back before I was expecting so many little things to hold me up on getting it finished. Yeah, I have to call and get an officer to come out. When my dad was getting his 57 panel truck registered, he called and the officer was out in about 10 minutes. Quickest service I ever seen. Smile

Hi Bryce and gang. Empty Tag Question for Coweta Co.

Post by rpm750 Tue Nov 11, 2008 7:51 pm

Hey Eric, Are you saying you had to have an officer come out and inspect your car? I'll have to do this also? I'm calling the tag office tomorrow to find out all the details but I'm afraid I may have to get a title first. All I have is a Bill of sale and it's not notarized! I bought my car from a man in Clayton Co. in May of 2001. I never transferred it into my name. I was restoring it so no need to register it. I hope I didn't screw my self!

Sorry guys didn't mean to high jack the thread. Embarassed

If the car was registered in Ga in the last 15-20 in someones name then a non-notarized bill of sale from anyone along with proof of insurance will get your car registered.

Yeah, you should be fine with the bill of sale you have. My 62 was last registered in tennessee sometime about 17 years ago. It then went to someone in georgia who never registered it. My dad then bought it years later (about 10 years ago) and never registered it either. I was then given the car and fixed it up. I only registered it about 3 months ago. I called the Sheriffs dept and they sent a deputy out to verify the Vin. Then I took that Vin form, proof of insurance, and the bills of sale (the one from the guy to my dad, and one from my dad to me) to the tag office in town. No problems at all. Nothing should need to be notarized.

Here is a link to the VIN verification form. The sheriffs dept will dispatch a deputy who is out already driving around, and he won't have the form with him.

The deputy I had didn't even get out of his car. I handed him the form and an old insurance card that was in the glove box when we brought the car home. He looked at the insurance card and said "this is good enough". Signed the VIN form and left. Took all of 45 seconds.
