And then the unthinkable!
As Eric and I left the bonfire I let him lead the way, I never dreamed that this would happen.
What a bitch.......
Yeah Eric hit a deer, a humongous deer! When I went by it it was still spinning in the air. It was a big F'in deer and it happened so fast.
Eric I feel so bad man that should of been me and not you. I feel so bad. I'm so sorry that this has happened.
As I'm posting this I still can't believe this has happened. I'm glad no one was in that passenger seat.

Oh my GOD! That is incredible. I feel so sorry for Eric. At least he is OK physically.
So much hard labor and sweet, Even if the insurance covers it, it is still hard to swallow. I can't imagen this happening to me, I would probably have a heart attack.

Re: And then the unthinkable!
TommyBoy. One of my favorite movies. There is a scene where a deer destroys David Spade's car. The scene ends with David Spade and Chris Farley just staring at the car, and David Spade just says "No way that just happened!" That was me and Bob tonight. Bob, I would have felt horrible if that was your car. Just glad you were there to help me get the fender off the tire and help limp the car back home. It sucks big time, but crap happens. It can be fixed (new door, fender, hood maybe-I already hammered it back in to shape, and maybe a new quarter panel-this one may be savable, but I don't know). It'll take a little while though as funds are low here at christmas time. Me and Bob made it home in one piece and that's the important thing. It's just a car, albeit one I spent 9 years working on, but overall, it can be fixed or replaced.
It just kinda ran up next to me, and I moved in the other lane (oncoming traffic, but no cars were coming), and then I had no where else to go. Then BAM, the whole car just shook and glass sprayed everywhere. I actually have deep nicks in the drivers door window from where the passenger side glass shattered with so much force. I guess the deer jumped, from what I can tell it hit the hood and front fender, and then spun and caved in the door.
Where we stopped
Back to my parents basement
Thanks again to Bob for helping me get it back on the road. Don't feel bad about it at all. Just nothing we could do. It would have gotten one of us.

Man! Thank God that it didn't hit that windshield. Glad that you are ok. What a freaking shame about your ride. I was just about to post pics of it at Sonic.

Malik, unfortunately it's the truth. Thanks everyone for the kind words. Aside from the deer, I had a blast today. I'll get it up and running again, may take a little while, but it should be fixable.

Yeah, I forgot about the awesome line at the end, but the looks of disbelief were there. I'll be bummed in a few days, but after the shakeup, i'm just glad to walk away with nothing more than a few light cuts.

Re: And then the unthinkable!
I am so sorry to that that happened. Glad to hear that you are o.k. though. It could have been a lot worse.
Re: And then the unthinkable!
That does suck but if there is a silver lining in this f'd up situation is that it's winter. Fix her over the somewhat down, cold months and she'll be ready to cruise in the spring. Good luck and glad you're safe.
Re: And then the unthinkable!
I just woke up and saw this and I'm sick to my stomach for you. I know how it feels.
While driving home from an all over re-paint on a '78 Malibu I restored for my daughter's first car in high school I hit a deer. Had to replace the hood...right front fender...grille...headlamp and trim...go back and paint it all again.
I feel so sad for you.

Re: And then the unthinkable!
Hi everyone. Thanks again for all the words and encouragement. I went back to my parents house and looked it over again today. The quarter panel really is the worst of it. So far I think I've got a replacement door and I'm hoping to look at a set of fenders this week also. I had hoped I could just pop the quarter panel back out, but the dent around the antenna area wasn't the worst of it. After looking it over today I noticed further down the hood(towards the handle) the quarter was actually pushed in about two inches so that the hood actually hangs way over the fender. Maybe I'll get some time this week to take the fender off and see what it looks like, but it's probably gonna need a whole new quarter. That should be a good project! I'm sure I'll have lots of questions for everyone when I get to that point.
Thanks again for all the nice comments. Hopefully I'll see ya'll around soon!

Re: And then the unthinkable!
Hey Man, you talked to the little lady?
Again, I'm still in shock.
How does the support under the tank look. If its straight then the sheet metal is bent around it. If its bent up or down then thats not good, but a port-a-power may straighten it out. From what I saw where we stopped that was the area of concern for me. Well after making sure you were Ok. I'm sure that quarter can be fixed, it is a tough area to work in but it will take time. Get the door and the fenders and we'll paint those up, drive her while you work on it man, don't park it. I know it suxs like hell but thats what I'd do!
She will look like this again, I'm sure of it.
Hey I looked today for the carpet and they only had the gray. Did the tan come on a big roll like the gray? They also have a black mat that looked stock I may get some of that also.

Here is some pics of the door. The bottom has separated a little and it has a little rust but you can probably patch it with metal from yours so.... Come and get it!
