new starter trouble
Installed new starter for autostick in the bus. Two contacts for small red wire on top just like old starter. Tried both positions and starter works but won't shut off. Help anyone?

Re: new starter trouble
This one works awesome, just won't shut off even when I turn ignition all the way off. Had to pull negative terminal off battery.

Re: new starter trouble
You get this figured out Shaky? Sounds like the solenoid is maybe "sticking" and keeping the battery + path open. If you are sure you have it hooked up correctly, I'd probably try to exchange it for another one as well. I didn't have much luck with the cheap one's I tried from the auto parts store. One lasted only a week before it crapped out. Luckily they take em back with no questions asked.

Re: new starter trouble
So second starter from O reilly,s worked about a dozen times then gave up. Took it back and they tested another new one out of the box and it failed. Don,t buy your vw starter from Oreilly auto parts.

Re: new starter trouble
Funny thing, dad had a sterter do the same thing (start and not stop). Pulled the starter and chinched the top bolt down 1st then it worked fine. I'm still running the same starter I bought from autozone about 10 years ago. No problems.

Got one from Gary down in roberta for 20 bucks. Took it to a local starter/ alternator shop for 20 more bucks. New brushes and tested.

Re: new starter trouble
actually, the starters and alternators for that matter, are the same for any FLAPS store (orilies, advance, autozone, napa, ETC.). In fact, most of them have the exact same part number. they are simply re-boxed. I work at advance, and have seen people try to bring in stuff they thought they bought from here. pretty much everything even the stickers are identical. sometimes, you'll see another sticker somewhere (a NAPA sticker, or worildwide (advance), or duralast (autozone)). anyhoo, point is, most FLAPS starters are just the same re-boxed shit, as any other store, so just keep that in mind when you think your getting a better starter by paying an extra $50 at NAPA, for no reason, lol.

Re: new starter trouble
New Bosh from VW vendor = zero warranty and a week to receive.
Flaps starter = lifetime warranty @ 1/3 the price and intsantly in your hand.
I've been pretty lucky with the flaps starters I've bought. Been running the same starter for 12 years or so now.
